They had been given a choice - all except a certain purple unicorn - to sacrifice themselves for their friend's survival. Trixie would force them to live their fears, their nightmares, their past encounters gone horribly wrong but for Twilight, she had something special in mind."Do what you want with me you coward! I'll forever remain loyal to my friends!" Rainbow Dash had said, arguably the most defiant to Trixie's torture.
And so she showed Twilight her friend's answers, over and over and how it would ultimately be their doom. They would die, yes, but not Twilight... no, the vengeful blue mare had far too many plans for her. Twilight would not meet her death, not yet at least...

It's what I was showing during the first 'Drawn on Skype' session, so glad some of you could attend :3
Eh... a little info:
They may not be their greatest fears but they will certainly be one of them.
Rainbow Dash: like a bird trapped in a cage, she no longer has her freedom.
Applejack: constantly there is a joke about her few mistakes concerning ropes, getting herself tied up and whatnot.
Fluttershy: Oh dear, the dragon from the episode 'Dragonshy' is back and he's not happy.
Rarity: Diamond Dogs are back in full force!

It sounds like just an excuse to make princesses useless again, keep in mind that in season 3 finale we see Celestia telling Twilight that she watched her from the very start, I bet that Celestia knew about Trixie and watched do Twilight can outsmart her, but she is not so stupid to just let Trixie harm element of harmony.

If Trixie would have wore the Amulet longer than in the episode, she could have become even more evil than Sombra... Whose already a record-breaker in terms of evilness.
At first Trixie planned to enslave/conquer all of Equestria... But with time, the Amulet would have twisted her though even more and her plans would have changed for... Mass extermination.
"I, the Greatest and Powerful queen Trixie, deems all the inferior beings of Equestria unworthy of serving me! It is time...
To dispose of them."
Yup, she would have been even worse than Sombra.

But Trixie will not keep her promise. The bad guys never do. (and when they do... be afraid, be very afraid, because they have eviler plans ahead!) She will let Twilight watch her friends die one by one, then use the evil version of Twilight to kill the real one and go on screw all of Equestria.

Oh yes... I can see that happening.
They will choose to sacrifice themselves to save Twilight and she will witness each and every one of them perish and then Trixie will unleash the Dark Twilight from the mirror and with the waste of her friends' lives to save hers, Trixie will finally have her revenge.

"Revenge"? To be honest, I'm often shocked at the preposterous escalation of revenge level. Sure, Trixie was pretty harshly treated after mildly offending the Ponyvillians, and she deserves some apology from those who mocked her and vandalized her wagon. But I firmly believe that Twilight Sparkle did nothing wrong against Trixie.
If Trixie have stayed to apologize and make peace rather than ran away from Ponyville, surely Twilight and the rest would accept her, just look how Snips and Snails , who woke the Ursa Minor and almost doomed Ponyville, got away with it just fine (and got punished by receiving awesome mustaches).
In your story, when Trixie say, "this is my revenge," she is in effect saying, "because you made me lose my job, and had to work on a rock farm, I'm going to let you watch your friends die gruesome deaths, one by one, then I'll kill you." In. Cold. Blood. An analogy shall be, "because you always scored higher than me and made me receive second prize, I'm now going to lobotomize you."
I think, should Trixie take the time to reflect on what she did during the period she was wearing that amulet, she would be terrified at her corrupted self, who was enforcing slavery, political suppression (Mayor Mare in a cage), and on the verge of committing atrocities (Remember she saying "this is supposed to make you writhe in agony!" what if she fired the bolt at Rainbow Dash while with the amulet still on?

The bolt was actually supposed to kill RD. If Trixie still had the alumet at this poiunt, she would have crossed the moral event horizon.

.... wasn't expecting that as a response.
She is wearing the amulet, it corrupted her. Who knows how far it would have twisted her mind if she had been wearing it longer?
Twilight didn't do anything to Trixie - she simply tried to fix her mistakes and defend her friends and home. However Trixie came back anyway, seeking revenge against Twilight for casting her out and humiliating her - and yes, if she had apologised Twilight would have forgiven her, she did in Magic Duel.
And no, as I said the amulet would most likely corrupt her mind to a point where all she can think about is evil. At this point, no matter what the "hero" did, she'd go all out and make sure it never happened again.
Yes, once it was taken off I would imagine she'd be horrified. If she did, in fact murder them she probably wouldn't be able to live with herself - she's very self-centered but she isn't heartless. Not the real Trixie - but this isn't the real Trixie. This is a corrupted, dark, vengeful unicorn with seemingly unlimited powers and only one goal. To get back at Twilight in any way possible.
Finally, yes - with the amulet gone and nothing terrible (... truly terrible like depicted in this image) occurring her apology was accepted and all forgiven.

But you can not waste their sacrifice, you must keep their promise, survive and find a way out and never forget the things they did for you.
