It was hot. H - O - T. Work at Meadow Lark Stables had all but slowed to a crawl. Even the most spirited horses were too hot to do anything more than flick their tails to shoo away flies. The Bashki looked more miserable than the others, having spent the first couple years in a much higher elevation.
Wesley made a sound that resembled a groan as he made his way back from the stable. He'd spent most of the morning in the indoor arena (climate controlled thankfully) working with Linny for their upcoming Summer Party Event, after returning her to the mare's pasture he had to make the trek back to the guest house in the blistering heat. Pausing, Wes removed his hat to wipe the sweat from his forehead. A small movement out of the corner of his eye caught his attention. Out in the foal's pasture the only animals apparently not affected by this heat were at play beneath the enormous trees.

Wesley couldn't help but chuckle. Each was moving in a way that was indicative of their own personalities. Mikah, who had recently been weaned and moved to this new pasture, was a continuous ball of energy as always. Little Simmi pranced and frolicked, tossing her head this way and that, the natural show off. Little Spook made Wesley laughed as he dramatically tossed himself to the ground and rolled to and fro. And Amorina stood at the back of the group, watching. She was definitely a contradiction to what they had expected, given the line of spirited Thoroughbreds she descended from. Not that MLS didn't welcome this behavior for a change, but she showed a lot of potential for being a quick learner.

These little ones were the future of MLS in a way.

While it was true that Mikah was only here before her new home could take her, she would still represent MLS through her lineage. This could be incredibly important when the time came to intentionally breed the Bashki. It would show the staff of MLS whether or not Mist and Fray might produce a strong dressage offspring.

Simmi showed incredible promise as a racer and eventual show jumper. She would be the next generation for MLS in both of those fields. It was Wesley's small hope that, if done correctly, Simmi and Amorina could create a formidable duo.

Amorina was beautiful to say the least, and if she could pass on a small portion of her genetics to her foals she would not only make MLS a profit in the arena but in breeding fees as well. Not to mention her intelligence. If she proved to be as smart as Carol believed she was, Rina would easily pick up the tasks required of her which would take her far.

Spook had so much potential it wasn't even funny. Wes couldn't wait to get him in the show ring. He was a natural if not a bit nuts at times. Secretly Wes hoped he would mellow with age like his father, whom Wesley was now an avid fan of, but if not he would still be treasured at MLS.

These four little, long legged, awkward looking foals have a lot to live up to, Wesley thought before walking away.
