Behold, humanity's last hope against the angels - the organization known as NERV.

At first glance, I never really figured why the NERV logo had a leaf and that cryptic slogan. But upon further examination, it's pretty neat the symbolism / meaning behind it!

The fact that NERV is fighting "angels" might seem odd, in as much as the organization sees itself following what it interprets at the devine order of creation; their motto, from Robert Browning's Pippa Passes, is "God's in his heaven. All's right with the world" [A interesting phrasing, since it also suggest a separation of God from the world - leaving its affairs to the will of mankind - as proper]. The motto is in the sigil of NERV, which is in the form of the organization's name emerging from a fig leaf half cut away; In Genesis 3: 6-7, "After they eat of the Tree Of Knowledge of Good and Evil, the very first thing Adam & Eve do is cover their naked bodies with fig leaves.
