Description This is a SketchUp model of the Nebulon Ranger, a spaceship from the expanded Star Wars universe, first appearing in the Dark Horse comic series "Tales of the Jedi."  The ship was used 4,000 years before the Battle of Yavin by the trio of Jedi Knights: Cay Qel-Droma, his brother Ulic and the Twi'lek, Tott Doneeta – on their historic missions.

The ship was a Krasten Shipyards Crecent-X9 courier, a craft designed for some of the earliest diplomatic and exploration missions into the galactic frontier. The ship's most notable feature was the massive wing mounted at a 45º angle to the starboard side of the main hull. The ends of the wings folded inward for landing clearance. In their time, the X9s were widely used by the Republic Navy and favored by the Jedi Order for their reliability and effective combat ability. Depending on the mission, the ships could be equipped with up to four laser cannons, a pulse-wave gun, (a common energy weapon used during the Great Sith War), a heavy laser turret and concussion missile launchers for defense.

Cay had made considerable modifications to his X9, but it was brought down in a crash after he took on his brother Ulic, then a Sith Apprentice, in a dogfight over the planet Ossus.

For the modeling "purists" out there who like to complain when things aren't exactly 100% - I made this model using the rather inaccurate orthos from the original Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels book as a guide, although I put my own details and dimensions into the craft, such as adding landing gear, and various surface details to the wings and hull. Sorry if it isn't exact to whats in the original comic, which by the way, seemed to change every time it was drawn anyway.

At the time I had to deal with an individual here on dA who disliked one of my models, not this one, but another I did, and it was because I winged the design, sized things by eye and as a result he said it was "very inaccurate" and because of that I shouldn't have bothered modeling it. I was like, "okay, whatever." So I decided to make a "disclaimer" ahead of time in case this was very inaccurate too for him. I'm not going to point the critic out but I'll just say he had a gallery filled with fat naked women, so you'd think he would have liked some exaggerated proportions.

F/k sake - its your work and he can f/k off!

Sides the man sounds like a right hunt (with a silent C) to me.

There is a case of true human excrement - what a loser.

Keep doing what you love and tell such people to kindly die

I absolutely love this unique vessel. It is unusual, but well armed, and very cool, and is an example of a nicely refined asymmetrical design.

Classic pre-Empire goodness. Pity we couldn't come up with a "Nebulon Ranger 2" or...can we for the future Star Wars Expanded Universe?

Flipping through the newest incarnation of the Star Wars Role-Playing game "Edge of the Empire" by Fantasy Flight Games, they have a picture of the Nebulon Ranger - or a ship that looks just like it . However the game itself is set during the Rebellion Era, so why would such an ancient ship would be in that book? The ship is on a landing pad and being tended to by an R2 unit - which weren't around in the "Tales of the Jedi" era, so  I guess it could be possible that these ships are still being produced 4000 years later. Or maybe it's akin to someone still driving around a Ford Model-T in real life.

Interesting looking design.
Plus, I'm always glad to see a spacecraft that's not gray or white.
I have no idea why this ship would be so asymmetrical, but it does look interesting. Nice work!

Actually it just appears that way - If you download the model from 3d Warehouse and see the straight-on angle of the ship, you'll see there is a moon hidden in the background by the wing which shows the light coming from the right, I have the sunlight adding shadows from the left.  Angling the sun the correct way made the ship kind if dark and you couldn't see the wing details, so I cheated.
