The planet of Varlim was accidentally discovered by the UNWS: Hoplite of Justice, a Steadfast-Class Destroyer that was heavily damaged in an engagement with Tridak and Zorvak forces. Having to escape, the captain ordered an uncalculated jump into uncharted space. This resulted in the UNWS: Hoplite of Justice crashing onto the terminator line of Varlim, and the crash-site attracted the attention of nearby primitive civilisations, going through their equivalent of the Medieval Age.

The native species has been named the Varlinians, semi-humanoid beings that are omnivores, with two arms for manipulating objects and tools. Their mounts are known as Talakmar, dog-like carnivorous quadrupeds, used in the same manner as Horses back in the Medieval Age on Earth. Many hunters, knights, soldiers, merchants, regular peasants, nobles etc. Talakmarhave even became mounts for the survivors of the UNWS: Hoplite of Justice.
