So look what I found floating in my folders for who knows how long.From what I remember the first time Danny tried to duplicate he ended up with two heads and at some point one eye. O.o And then all of a sudden in a later episode he can duplicate fine (correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't watched the show in a while) I don't remember any inbetween period where he finally gets it right for the first time giving him the confidence to use the skill in battle. So I drew out what I thought would happen during his first successful duplication.

Danny managed to successfully duplicate himself in 'Reign Storm' to fight Pariah Dark (Identity Crisis was needed as a breather episode to follow it, and then he duplicated himself into four without help from the ecto-suit in 'Torrent of Terror')

Personally I don't think Reign Storm counts because he had the suit to buff up his power, so would that make Torrent of Terror his first successful duplication?

Yes but the suit was really dangerous and was taking a lot of his stamina, maybe he was under pressure too?

His duplicating practice sorta freaked me out. I'm pretty sure there was a head that came out of his mouth and an arm that came out of his tongue. Or something like that.

And to clarify, yes, you definitely remember the duplication scene correctly! ;D
The first time he tried and ended up with two heads was in "Maternal Instincts", and he wasn't able to split any further; he changed back to a human split as he was and somehow that equated to him having one eye before Tucker slapped him on the back of the head, and he was fine... XD
I also recall another time he had an unsuccessful split, and he ended up QUITE a mess, with tons of parts of himself sprouting off from him, and that was when he was fighting Technus. I can't remember if that was "Identity Crisis" or "Teacher of the Year", though... that one is hazy... It's probably neither. XD

it was identity crisis, he tried to duplicate so he could fight technus (that he accidentally released) and have his planned fun weekend with sam and tucker. after he epically failed, he used his parents ghost catcher to split himself into 'fun' human danny and 'superhero' ghost danny.

IKR??????? I thought I was the only one! I liked the whole "cyclops" thing because it was kind of funny, but the multiple heads and stuff... That was just dang freaky. I dunno... it just totally weirded me out!

There were a couple of scenes in the show that disturb me, like that one and the one where he gets overshadowed by Poindexter. That scene kinda just hit a wrong chord with me. :/ Urgh.

Well, if I remember correctly, the first time he tried to duplicate himself was in "Maternal Instincts", and I remember because he wanted to spend the weekend training instead of going with his mum.
It isn't quite the same in "Identity Crisis", when he splits himself using the Dream Catcher, as I've read from some of the comments, because he technically split himself in half, thus the two different personalities.
I think the first instance of him successfully splitting himself was in "Reign Storm", when the Exoskeleton, which enhances his powers 100-fold, allowed him to duplicate himself into four, something he couldn't do before.
Another instance that this occurred, if only briefly, was in "Beauty Marked", the one where Sam enters the beauty pageant. In this one, it's very brief, but he does split himself in order to avoid getting hit by a ghost's axe.
I think the last instance I can remember is in "Torrent of Terror", when he duplicates himself into four again, though he seems to struggle with it a bit, perhaps because it was not like splitting into two to avoid the ghost's axe from "Beauty Marked".
Other than that, I don't think I can recall any other instances, and indeed, none like this one! I don't think he DID have a time where he finally got it right on his own that we could see, although the "I did it!" that he exclaims after he did it in "Torrent of Terror" might have been it...
But I'm just rambling, sorry; I actually haven't watched the show in about four months, so I've probably got some details mixed up...
Anyway, THIS IS ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS! I just love it, and I can imagine him doing this... XD And someone else commented that "he's channeling Tucker here", and I bust up laughing because I believe it! XD NICE WORK!

Yeah, Identity Crisis wouldn't count as he wasn't using his powers to split himself, and I remember the Reign Storm scene but I didn't count that one either as, like you said, he had the exo-skeleton powering him up so he could do things he normally couldn't.
I forgot about the Beauty Marked one though. O.o I think that one might have been simply a defensive reaction, like his body did it automatically because he was threatened, but he may not necessarily be able to do it again as it was a knee-jerk reaction.
And he wouldn't have split into four in Torrent of Terror unless he had mastered splitting into two or three first, and he'd have to be confidant in that to try four.
And don't worry, I love a rambler! It just means I can ramble back!

Anyway, Yeah, I'd agree with you on those topics; I remember WHEN he split, but I honestly didn't think any of it was really him until Torrent of Terror, and like you said, he's not likely to split entirely into four until he practiced or became more confident with the others. XD
That's an interesting idea for Beauty Marked... It might make more sense to me, then... I have to remember which order all these were in before I can be sure, though... XD hahaha But I can see that...
(Ah, I thought so, but I couldn't quite remember! That was just brilliant... I LITERALLY lol'd when I read that, and it takes something rather funny to make me literally laugh out loud... XD My computer's been glitching out because of a hardware problem, which means the screen freezing and blanks out sometimes... So I couldn't quite remember because it glitched out just after I commented... (thank goodness!)) hahaha

Oh God my memory is absolutely terrible on an ordinary basis but talk to me about a movie I like and I can recite most scenes word by word. XD
I've applied that 'knee-jerk instant reaction' thing to a couple of his powers actually, like in Control Freaks where he does that cool glowy-spinny attack move in the jewellery store, and when his body splits itself in half sometimes.

hi, i'm another rambler, and have the same weird perfect memory for movies/tv shows from year ago, but don't recall what i did last week lol.
my idea from reading the previous comments: danny tends to discover new powers by accident/instinct (plasma blast, shield, etc) and then learns to replicate them on command to use them effectively. duplication was a little different since he saw vlad do it first. so he knew it was possible, and that he had the capability but struggled with figuring out the how (hence using the splitter to do the work for him in identity crisis).
so in beauty marked he instinctively split to avoid the axe and figured out the "key" or "trick" to duplication (kinda like a "eureka" moment). and this scene fits perfectly as right after beauty marked when he successfully split himself for the first time without any power boosts or outside influences
by the time torrent of terror, Danny can reliably split himself into multiple duplicates but it takes a lot of concentration to do so. or only recently could he form more than one duplicate.
my personal headcanon is that when he developed his ice powers/core, his core went through a "growth spurt" so he is more powerful after. and so better able to use his more energy intensive powers.

It could have been the same episode, but what I'm thinking of was when he was practising duplication and couldn't split himself completely, and then ended up with two heads. It was a different scenario to the dream catcher.
