Description
I participated in a contest over at to create a carousel unicorn using only three colors, no tones, hues, or shading. I was so happy with how my design turned out that I have continued to add more ponies to my carousel and will be offering them for purchase in my Etsy ShopI made the bows, roses, and Unicorns from polymer clay. I constructed the base and pole from wood, metal, and a glass bead. The reason I didn't construct the base and pole from clay and opted to instead use wood and metal was for not only a detailed and authentic look and feel, but also a very sturdy construction to allow for ease of handling and shipping. The pole goes all the way through the unicorn and base. It is a very stable sculpt with no flexibility.
Materials used: Polymer clay
glass bead
metal
wood
acrylic paint and glaze
Swarvorski Crystals
The entire sculpt is very small for so much detail. It stands only 4 inches tall and that includes the pole and base.

They have more colors than three except the last one, who is my favorite.

Thank you! it would help a lot since I am making a pony and the legs were really wobbly but the armature would ruin the legs so I just put it in the freezer for the night. And how could I clean my clay since it got some dirt in it when I finished making the body? Do you have any useful tips? anyway you rock!

I solved the wobbly leg problem by experimenting with a variety of props while baking. I use wadded up pieces of foil, toothpicks, and different size marbles to remove the weight of the sculpt off the legs while baking. To keep my sculpts clean I use baby wipes and rubbing alcohol. I just smooth over my entire sculpt before baking and it usually gets most of the dust off of them.

Awe thanks! I have never collected carousels but I do have a nice little collection of the ones I made and I just love them. I want to continue to add more to my carousel line including none unicorn creatures too like a zebra and dragon and I would just love to do an ostrich.

Actually this design was inspired by a contest going on over at as stated in the description. The black purple and gold one was the first one I made for the contest and I loved the design so much that I decided to make some more, although I did not stick to the original three color challenge of the contest. I don't think Becca has made any carousel unicorns, but if she has definitely link it to me because I would love to see her concept! I bet it would be so cute! I just love her work so much. I have been checking the entries for the contest and it gonna be a tough competition, I am excited to see if any other polymer clay artists do an entry.

lol I do love making hair curls....actually I always do curls at the ends or just do curly hair because I haven't figured out how to do straight hair in a way that I am very happy with.
