Haha! May have been! Feel so lucky to have seen the trainers in the water with the whales before the accident. It really was amazing to see wasn't it?

I know right? It's something I'm glad I videoed. One thing I'd never forget. That's been one thing on my hitlist since I was like seven.

I had the opportunity to do an apprenticeship at seaworld florida last summer and was able to swim and help train Tilikum as well as the other orcas and be in the shows. I must say I was scared of swimming with Tili because of his reputation but I was surprised that he was actually the most gentle orca out of them all - even makaio the 'small' one. such a sweet gentle animal despite his size and power. love Tilikum <3

I'm glad you had such a fab experience. But I thought no trainers, not even those who were high up in the ranks were permitted to swim with Tili. Especially since last summer trainers were still not permitted to get in the water with any orcas at all under investigations ongoing by OSHA (and still are not permitted to do any waterworks).
In 2008 I went to career camp at seaworld and got the opportunity to swim in the medical pool in shamu stadium, Katina 8ft away from me behind the gate But when I did camp again in 2010, they didn't allow us that activity due to the accident with Dawn. Instead we did the swim test at Blue Horizons dolphin and whale stadium! That too was an amazing experience to have.
Either way, if you did get the chance to interact in any way at all with SeaWorld's orca family and trainers, you are very fortunate

The trainers do still swim with Orcas backstage just not out with the public. they also have to have a lot of the professionals watching incase of emergency's but it's really just a precaution :/ I was unaware of this myself until i actually got there. i think the camp they are running this year are allowing people to swim with makaio and katina as they are the more 'docile' orcas at the park and have got a new license allowing them to interact with the orcas backstage just not in shows because of the previous incidents

That's a great photo, those Pecs of his are rediculous, I keep waiting for him to just fly out of the arena with those things.

That would be hilarious to see.

If Whales could fly, Whalers would freak.
