This is beautiful! I agree with you when you say that shells are a great subject because of the mathematical elegance, which you show in this piece. The concept of something emerging from it's shell is a wonderful one, but the way you put it into both a literal and symbolic form. I love the gradation of the background and the texture of the shells. You use the lines to guide attention to both the heart jewel but not away from the shells, which is not an easy thing to do. Overall it is a very nice piece of art work!
