Description Got an old standby character for M4 that I dearly loved to used by Bergie, Tyrese. I had done an early render in Poser a long time back. Now that I have Reality 3 for Poser, I decided to see if I could do a better portrait in Lux. I'm not disappointed. Only thing is when doing Afro type skin, there's always some sort of bluish diffuse going on rather than the normal white or pinkish color. so for that I suggest you investigate. I would give you my settings but what works for me may not work for you. Only render this for about 2 hours and at over 400 s/p. Not bad looking, eh?

I love how realistic this look. Would you mind adding this to the Dark-Art Anatomy group? Seriously, this is mesmerizing! *.* Β And I have few questions if you don't mind me asking. What's render? And what is s/p?

It was done in Luxrender and the s/p was something like in the upper 1k to lower 2k range.

He doesn't look like the Tyrese I have. Maybe the texture but not the morph. And his beard and hair are all trimmed. Did you do that part yourself? Great portrait though.

It was a freebie texture and morph and no, it was included in the set.

Thanks for faving this and

Lovin' the hair cut and tapered beard. Yes I see you are African American or Carribean-Latin American Β artist. Shows from your small details. I know what you mean about the bluish blush... I an glad you are instructive as well as creative.

Thank you. This is an improvement. Hopefully I'll be able to do more improved renders as I get more experienced.

May I ask what your settings were for him? Β I've been playing with Lux/Reality/Poser, but so far haven't gotten anything worth really posting- trial and error and tutorials are used, but the videos are useless to me with no sound. XD Β I've tried following, but flipping between it and the programs have been a PITA. Β XD Β Well done!

I will try to set up a screen capture of my settings in Reality. Also my lighting and camera setup also.

Looks pretty good to me.

For the blue. Hmm. Luxredner has "black body temperature" sliders in the lights where you can offset the blue.

Yes, I know.... but the blue is "baked" into the skin texture.

Thank you but it's the creator, Bergie who supplied the texture with the morphs. I agree, it's a great texture.

Not bad at all! That said, I do think I prefer your P7 version of the same character. Unfortunately, I don't think that's due to either Luxrender or anything you've done. Lux is more accurate, so all of that burned in specular looks that much more incorrect. I find that's the weakest aspect of photo based textures in general, and darker skinned textures specifically. Painted textures have their drawbacks, too, though.

Skin has 3 non-reflective components. Diffuse color, dermal scattering, and subdermal scattering. Dermal scattering has a light, yellowish grey, waxy color and a wider radius, but only goes along the surface. Subdermal scattering is red, has a shorter radius, and needs you to be able to see into the flesh to see it. Darker skin means more diffuse and a change in hue, value, and saturation of dermal scattering. Generally speaking, that's where your skin shader needs to change when you go to darker skin.

Yes, that's why it's better to use a bluish tint or some other color than reddish tone in the sss component of the skin shader. What Reality allows you to do is to add both an outer and inner subsurface scattering color. So it's not just one but 2, which is what I'd added. But I digress. Thanks. I'm currently working on learning out aspect of Reality without resorting to Pose2Lux.
