I just laid a texture over the image and colored in the eyes to my liking. I could find a tutorial for you and send you a link if you'd like?

Here, this one is pretty good.
I think the only thing I did different from this tutorial was that I made the eyes darker rather then white but I'm sure you'll get the idea. Hope this helps!
