Description
Design inspired by newly discovered Dicynodont genus/species: BULBASAURUS phylloxyronwww.inverse.com/article/27179-…
Scientists who described the new species explain that the name describes the physical features of the animal, as is standard.
Bulbasaurus - "bulbed lizard" (nose shape), Phylloxyron - "leaf razor" (beak shape)
Then add: "similarities between this species and certain other squat, tusked quadrupeds may not be entirely coincidental."
Clever....
Watchers here probably don't know this, but I have a geeky obscure love of Permian-era life, specifically early synapsids??
I've actually been thinking of making myself a series of anthro designs based on Permian animals for a while, so this newly named synapsid sort of kicked things off.
Synapsidia is the taxonomic group that includes both mammals, and their early kin. Non-mammal Synapsids dominated the land before the age of dinosaurs. Dicynodonts like bulbasaurus were an incredibly prolific group of herbivores, until they were finally replaced by large grazing dinosaurs.
I wanted to give her a plant theme for obvious reasons, but I decided to stick with Permian-era plants because I can't help myself.
(Ginko, fern, conifer)
((If you read all of that, I am amazed))
