Description
Alright everyone here's my second tutorial, how to draw a sharkie. Species is mostly based off a Sand Tiger shark :3Brief Sand Tiger info: coloring tan to bronzy gold, some tend to have brig spots on their backs, sloped head to dorsal area, 2 distinct dorsal fins, pointy teeth meant for gripping prey not shearing/tearing, these sharks are slow cruising predators*look at the tail shape*-not meant for speed or to be chasing down prey, and this breed is also known for how their teeth stick out. If you would like to hit this species spot on, I suggest looking up some reference photos
I made this tutorial as an introduction to sharks and tried to make it as simple as possible. I have added my own touches so this is Not realistic, more semi-real.
Directions:
1. Start with a slopey curved line, this is like the spine for the body.
2. In the middle of where the slope starts and ends, you're going to draw down and make a tear drop shape, this will make the end of the neck and body. You are also going to start the head*kind of cone-shaped*, make a curved like going from the 1st line to the beginning of the tear drop shape.
3. Flesh out the head, halfway between the cone of the head, mark the mouth and add the eye. You are also going to start the tail, from the end of the tear drop shape, draw your lines up to a point. This starts the shark's tail. After that you can draw a smaller triangular shape right off the lower slope of the line you drew. This completes the sharks tail.
In this step we also mark where the gills and fins are. The gills are marked at the start of the teardrop curve on the neck. The side/pectoral fins are marked right after the gills, at the bottom of the teardrop curve. The top/dorsal fin is located about half way on the body and the second dorsal fin is located just before the end of the teardrop. The second bottom/side fin*called pelvic fins* are located just below where we marked the second dorsal fin.
4. We draw the triangular shaped fins and the gill slits. Sharks tend to have 3-6 gill slits. In this step, this is also the completed shark. Clean up any unwanted lines, add eyes, nostrils, and details. Since sharks are also counter shaded, you can draw in the color break.
O. 'O' is the basic shark form we are going for, lateral line present.
A. 'A' is how I start my shark heads, that slopey triangular shape.
B. 'B' shows how I take that shape and expand it, I left the rough sketch lines there for you to see(you have too really look though ><) This is sketch is a little bit more realistic, showing the eyes, teeth and gums better. I also exaggerated the jaw muscle/structure.
Notes: If anyone is interested I have a Shark and Fish anatomy sheet. Drawn by me ofcourse but with all proper labeling. I'm also happy to do more specific shark species for another tutorial, maybe a bit more realistic..
Once again sorry for iffy quality ><;
**Also, if you are confused, don't be afraid to ask for help ^^
If you use this tutorial, link back with what you drew and credit would be nice, hehe. Hope it helps~
