I have to admit... it's stunning work, but the only thing that puts me off to them at all is the fact that they do not cover the tips of the blades.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Sharpener In reply to Jessica-Moore [2012-05-19 07:40:40 +0000 UTC]

ye.. I had to leave that open in order not to create too much suction between the leather and the latex when drawing it=/

-.- So overwhelmingly innovative. I bought a leather needle yesterday; I re-sewed the lining of my small skinning knives' sheath. I meant..just until I can seam some mindless bandits mouth shut. ^~

Nice work....how difficult is it to make a scabbard of this similar design....I have a couple of swords I would like to have scabbards for.....

If one is not acustomed to leather atall I wold say it's hell, but if not you should get some freetime on your hands and just sit down and try

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

kodiak1975 In reply to Sharpener [2009-04-08 19:29:08 +0000 UTC]

What weight of leather did you use? Did you use different weights for different parts of the scabbard?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Sharpener In reply to kodiak1975 [2009-04-08 19:36:12 +0000 UTC]

4mm ox allover. hardened some pieces more than others though

Great work - as allways!

btw: how do you glue the fake-stones to the leather? Mine are allways falling off after a few days

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Sharpener In reply to CruelCat [2009-04-07 11:03:59 +0000 UTC]

some of them have little hles for sewing them on, but to those without I use a mixture of epoxyglue and contactglue, and then put a coat of gloss on the gems

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CruelCat In reply to Sharpener [2009-04-08 07:21:59 +0000 UTC]

You use gloss on the gems?
Oh,interesting... I bought mine just around the corner, and these got a nice reflecting coat underneath, so they really sparkle in the sunlight. I used contactglue so far, but now you say it, I think of makeing somekind of enclosure with epoxid for them. thnx for the idea!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Sharpener In reply to CruelCat [2009-04-08 19:18:16 +0000 UTC]

Are you using an entirely black gear? Cause if you are I highly recommend using somewhat darker gemstones if you are intending to add some new ones. To bright colors tend to eragonize and legendate the whole thing=S Heck, I'mma go see if you have any pics of your gear lying around in your gallery now

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CruelCat In reply to Sharpener [2009-04-09 22:27:50 +0000 UTC]

No i dont. Okay, the leather is (and will again be) black, but our house colours are red+gold, so I think the sparling red gems (we already got some on our fabrics) will look good on my new headgear and armour.
And after all I am a faern (although more multi-class than pure sorcerer), so a little more sparkling than the rest is okay, I think.

Well, pics will be made as soon as I have some new finished. Atm I still make piles of thrown away scetches - still don't have the right look for my armour. Well, lets see. The old one is of course in my gally

back in black. lolz had to say it. scabbards look pretty sweet. any reason as to keeping them open at the ends? i would imagine that any light reflected off the tips could be quite bad when trying to be stealthy.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Sharpener In reply to Juken [2009-04-07 05:26:07 +0000 UTC]

as the surface of the swords are made of rubber, an entirely shut tip of the scabbard often results in getting a kind of sucktion when unsheating the blade and that really anoy me
