Thanks! Most of the animation / art was done in Krita (an excellent free art program that includes some basic animation features). The animations and backgrounds were then imported into Blackmagic Fusion 8 (a free video effects editor) so that I could add a few effects / animate some elements. I used FFMPEG as well, to properly generate the gif.
