Sure, I can definitely understand why this would be confusing to someone not from America.     Many consider Ronald Reagan to be one of our best Presidents, partly because of his strong stance against communism and the Soviet Union. Before he was a politician though, he was an actor and he starred in a silly little movie with a chimpanzee called Bedtime for Bonzo (which is why there's a chimp here and the image's title).

The reason why I think it will be misunderstood by the right is because these days, the party of Reagan doesn't seem to have the animosity towards Russia that they used to. Many think that Russians have deep ties to the President and most of his staff. This image will probably be used by the right to show their hero fighting communism and pure socialism, which they now believe the other side is trying to bring to America (which is not true).

Okay, it's not as confusing as I thought. I knew he was an actor, but I didn't know about that Bonzo thing.

I think it makes sense that the republicans don't have as much animosity towards Russia as they used to. The Cold War is over, and this is not the CCCP Russia anymore. Altho Putin can't be trusted, at least he is not a communist conqueror. The president having ties to Russia is big news today, even we see that here far far away. We absolutely knew that the Mueller investigation will find nothing, the whole thing is just a silly conspiracy. Trump is not a Russian asset. And somebody who grew up in a post-communist, still socialist hellhole in Eastern Europe. I can see the worry of Republicans. The Democrats after all, do have some socialist elements. Like AOC with her New Green Deal. But ofc everything is blown out of proportions when it comes to your country. The whole culture war thing going on, seems very silly from the outside. I hear that America is so bad right now from the American left and that they need to go more socialist and less capitalist. But we just don't see that. We see America as a great country. That's why even us, Europeans want to migrate there. Your country is the number one migration target in the world for a reason. There is no mass emigration from America, like from actual bad countries. And I think that must be the core of the fear of Republicans. That they actually believe they live in a great country, and they fear that massive change will ruin it. And they see all the examples in the world. Like us. And they see some Democrats coming up with socialist ideas like censorship, socialized everything, super high taxation all while condemning capitalism, and they get worried. The only thing we Europeans don't like about the US, is the foreign interventions.

whats ironic is that the democratic party is actually trying to Reinstitute policies and legislation from the US era where we were most prosperous. Like... the raising of taxes... the democratic party is trying to bring those taxes Almost back up to the level they were at following WW2. The reason that isnt happening, is because most of the influential republican senators' donators would be hit hard, since those senators happen to be bought be various corporations. Like Mitch Mcconnell, and Ted Cruz. 

The republicans are Suppose to be about values and tradition, but much more so recently, thats been the democrats. The spin the Republicans have been putting on the democrat's proposals and direction is that of socialists.... but they'd honestly have to be calling the whole era they're romanticizing with Trump's "Make America Great Again", socialist.

They're just using Socialism as a trigger and propaganda like the US did with Communism. Yes its a real thing, and it has its issues... but just like how the US used any possible notion of Communism as a weapon against political enemies, the republican party is doing the same with Socialism and the democratic party. 


They sensationalize it, stir up fear and anger, then use it as a rallying point against their enemy.

Aside from trying to reinstate policies and elements of legislation we've already had, that worked tremendously, the democratic party has ben trying to push for things that we've already seen done for a long while now in other western countries... like universal healthcare. We know our system is broken. We know of ways to fix it. But again.. The republican party stops those things from happening, because the people who are directly responsible for them getting re-elected via funding their election campaigns are the same people that would be harmed by those changes. Same situation when it comes to issues revolving around global warming.

Example again: Mitch McConnell, and the fact that the 3rd largest donor group for him happen to come the insurance industry. And Ted Cruz's 4th largest financial supporters happen to come from the Oil and Gas industry.

And none of this gets into the fact that thanks to conservatives, Corporations can literally put their own representatives up alongside senators, to draft bills and vote them into law. It makes no sense, that corporations like Facebook, Google, or Bank of America have the same kind of power as senators (but they do).

Prime example: The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), who's been around since the 70's and has included members like the National Rifle's Association (NRA)... Who has written laws like "Stand Your Ground" and helped to shoot down legislation for gun regulation. That right there says a lot, considering the US' issues with gun violence.

Now the Democrats arent clean either... But when talking about the direction our country has been going, and the roadblocks that have been thrown in the way of US citizens... it isnt democrats or socialism. Its senators who're more interested in serving themselves than their country.

You're hearing a bit of misinformation regarding Democrats' ideas of socialism, it's not anything like what you've experienced in Eastern Europe. I shouldn't start a political firestorm in the comment section of a great artist though, so thanks for taking an interest in American politics and I'm glad Europeans haven't completely lost faith in the United States (because I wouldn't blame them in the slightest if they did).
