Janus’ Paradox---------------
Story by Shashank Rajwade|| To use contact: shashankrajwade@gmail.com
After working very hard for the day shift at the bottling plant; Allen was back home completely drenched in sweat. He threw his almost wet shirt on the ground and called upon his wife to bring him a glass of water. When his wife gave him an angry glance on his recent untidiness Allen got a bit irritated and told her he is going to the paint shop.
Money was tight and expenses high, this wedding, wife and kids required too big a pile of money than he could bring in painting sign boards from his small shop. So, he had joined this factory as a day job.
His hard days of labors filled with immaculate computation of temperatures of moulds, management of air pressure, filled with discipline of string of workers on a supply line; it was totally different from the idyllic time he was accustomed to spend in painting up posters and sign boards. If the wages would have been high in painting business he would never have added another profession to his day to day life.
Even after a daily routine of two jobs he loved both of them as each of them bring him closer to one of a side of his character. He was disciplined and determined in one job; while emotive and idyllic in other. One involved high focus and precision; while in other job everything was right if done in right spirit of the task at hand.
He felt as if he was at the doors of two worlds each inviting him with open arms. One door that led him to promotions, high salaries and climbing up social ladder; while other door opened in the imaginarium of his own filled with dreams, peace and serenity.
These dilemmas were always there, on every single night when he walked his home from shop. Every night, shop he used to think which job he should give a preference over other. Which path he should choose from the two distinct paths before him?
And after a long train of thoughts that day he thought about his family and he realized all he was doing was no longer for him alone but for his family. This thought filled his heart with calmness and joy which he was searching from the time he had to join that factory.
He mumbled, “Maybe love and family are solution to this Janus Paradox”.

An interesting story, the two sides are interestingly not necessarily good or evil. One would bring Janus wealth, the other creative expression. It is sort of the life of an artist to balance both of them out.
