Description
Modeled in Zbrush and XSI. Textured and rendered in Max.(Mental Ray)I had so much fun making this guy. The challenging part was getting 4 displacement maps at 4096x4096 to work together without causing any seams.

This is outstanding work. He looks so alive and malevolent, and like he would be cold to the touch. Front view is the scariest. Stunning.

Nice model. The highlights on the render look a little dark.

That is amazing! I can't believe it's a 3d model and not a real sculpture.
Tho when I saw the thumbnail, I thought it was the creatures from the 1986 Invaders from Mars

good god! I can't even tell that's not made of foam rubber or something similar. it looks like a professional make-up artist job. the fact that it's a 3D model is nearly unbelievable.

Yes I was lucky enough to model and texture him for the cinematic. Working on Warhammer stuff is a whole lot of fun.

hahah, this was totally my fave part of the warhammer teaser video, sucha cute beast mwahah Incredible job! Grats.
Still, I'm wondering, why so many different displacement maps? One for the outer part of the body, one for the inside of the mouth and one for the tongue?

ShaunAbsher In reply to RagingAngel [2008-09-18 04:54:04 +0000 UTC]
I had to make so many because the camera gets so close-up. I wanted the texture maps to hold up. There is A displacement for his back side, two for each side for the face, one inside the mouth, one on his teeth, and another for his tongue. It can be kinda overkill but it's good to give the awesome scene assemblers at Blur the option of really high res maps.
