Description
This is an exercise I do regularly. I redraw something by an artist I like as a way to see how they solve problems in their work. I generally have a few of these laying around the studio. It's a good way to get warmed up for inking.I applied a series of Black Magic India ink washes on this and then finished it using Dr. Martin's concentrated water colour dyes.
This is on 11 x 17 100% cotton Bristol board. Inked/coloured with a #2 Raphael 8404 Martre Kolinksy brush.

What would you say is the defining characteristic of the pin up girls for the art style?

The style is classic and nostalgic with a nod of appreciation to the fashion, makeup, hair and a bit of a campy attitude. Innocent yet knowing. Basically fun.

It's so weird. These are Dr. Martin dyes I've had since 1988. I've just been moving them around with me since then. I haven't used them since the early '90s. Guess they were worth investment...
