Description
There have been a LOT of different “how introverts work" infographics and explanations on the internet since I first proposed this analogy in a vote incentive of TNH . Some of them are really good! But I still like this one. c: It's something my extroverted friends could get behind that doesn’t also imply that I’m a special snowflake princess that must be treated just so. YOU DON'T HAVE TO TREAT ME SPECIAL YOU JUST HAVE TO BE OKAY WITH ME NEEDING YOU TO GO AWAY SOMETIMES.So I made a poster! *u* Perhaps it would be handy to hang up in your room or dorm?????? If you’re coming to OTAKON this weekend you should stop by The Athena Studio table and get one!

Ha, thanks for making this. I'm a heavy introvert, and I enjoy being around people. (Maybe that's why I've been so tired lately XD

I may end up printing this out and giving it to my older brother. He's a massive extrovert, while the rest of my family are introverts, and I cannot begin to describe how much he doesn't get it.

It's a hard thing to get, when you've been one way all your life, I think! It's how the world works for you. I think that's why a some of the "how introverts work" things get defensive or mean, because it's also hard for a lot of introverts to understand how extroverts could be anything but thoughtless.
But MAN IF THIS INFOGRAPHIC THING WOULD HELP go for it! I am more than flattered!!

What bewilders me is that he's really very agreeable with most everyone else except his sisters, both introverts. Luckily his wife, while *very* extroverted herself, is also very good at reigning his worst traits in, sometimes with a rolled up newspaper to the nose.
I wouldn't say it's all that mean. Defensive, yes, but given how common perceptions of introversion tend to lean, it's understandable. We don't need some wacky girl/guy to drag us into being social like in a bad romantic comedy. I'm still waiting for a movie that shows how well that actually works (badly).

Trouble is finding the signal for "flee" sometimes. I come from a long line of people who won't STFU, and I worry about overstaying my welcome. And people get socially conditioned to lie about whether they want you to keep going.
Huh. We teach people to be polite, but we don't teach them to avoid taking offense at polite requests.

IT'S TRUE. Personally, I love to talk, but I've kind of learned to not go too far with non-friends unless someone is asking questions. That's my key -- if someone has stopped asking me questions about it or really responding to what I'm saying directly, then I'll kind of finish up what I was saying and let them talk or leave or whatever.
You're right though, it's hard to tell a stranger "please shut up and go away b/c I don't care," and if you ask "am I boring you?" there's no polite way to say "YOU REALLY ARE," so rather than look for signs that they don't care, I try to stop if there aren't any signs that they DO care for me to continue.
Friends are supposed to be able to tell me to shut up, though. And vice versa -- all the friends I've kept over the years are the people who know that when I say "I don't want to talk right now" or "right now I need some time alone, I'm not going to text you back" that it's nothing personal. I encourage the same of my friends -- "please tell me if you need some alone time -- I will happily stop bothering you for a bit if you need it. c: " It takes some time to break down all the conditioning to never be direct with others, but I think for friends it's worth it.
And because we have more trust, I can blather on a little more than I would with a stranger. :")

XD May not have asked directly... but I implied like the dickens. ^_^
I keep starting to write a response, but it boils down to "I agree." and "Friends are awesome, because you don't have to work at being understood." Which are obvious. But, I guess, are worth stating.

THIS Just... THIS. People keep trying to insist I'm not an Introvert since I'm such a friendly and social person but I NEED my time away from ANYONE to recharge or else I burn out.

Nice little comic! I love your style of drawing. And a good message as well, because people do tend to equate introversion with shyness/social anxiety. I think the social problems/disorders MIGHT tend to go hand-in-hand with introversion (perhaps because we don't socialize as much...?) but it's certainly not the case with ALL introverts. I think they should hang this as a poster in classrooms!
I think TV might be one of the worst critics of introverts...esp in reality-type contests... the quiet/introverted ones are always criticized as having 'no personality' or 'needing to be more outgoing'...as if something is wrong with their very being! It's so irritating! (lolsorryfortherantXD)

Ahhh thank you so much!
The first time I started really feeling like I needed to express this was actually a TV example -- after watching the Shrek Christmas Special on TV. I mean, Shrek is actually one of the rare super introverted protagonists who stays introverted and is happier that way. You could make comments about him being an ogre and that not really being too flattering but WHATEVER I'LL TAKE WHAT I CAN GET. He's capable of having friends and loving other people, he just wants to be left alone and prefers things to be quiet and nobody ever changes him for it.
EXCEPT IN THE CHRISTMAS SPECIAL, where it's implied that his desire for a quiet Christmas with his wife should take a backseat to the fact that Donkey wants him to be festive. I WAS SO MAD.
anyway I have since dedicated myself to finding a good way to explain introversion to extroverted people in a way that made it clear that we're not just being antisocial and we don't hate them.
AND..... THUS THIS COMIC WAS BORN??? xD

I agree on the TV thing. I mean... you can't show what's going on inside the introvert, but still. That's just how that person is, and it's not wrong.

This is great and much nicer than what I've taken to saying. I've told my brother (who is also an introvert) a few times that extroverts are like metroids; they suck the life out of you.

Hahaha, thank you so much for posting this dear! I am quite having one of those days and it is making me grumpy. XD It's like....I like people, except when I want to be alone, then it's like "I don't want friends, I want to be alone!! ARGHHGHDHSAAHSdffffffffffffffff.........."
Loving the expressions in this as well. Makes me wonder if more people are extro.......but then again that'd be hard to tell since all the intro's would be introverting leaving all the extros........hrmm..XD

I am amused at how most of these I see do seem to imply like we introverts need special treatment. All we need is the ability to be ALONE occasionally. Yours makes it seem far less anti-social.

This is laid out really well! I feel like a whole bunch of educators (and K-12 students, for that matter) could benefit from infographics like this. If I ever end up having a classroom to call my own someday, I'll definitely purchase one to hang on my wall!

Finally. Someone puts this in a more relatable form. Bothers me when people assume the worse if I don't want to be around others for a little bit. This would be why.

I ship most places, actually! -- it's just expensive as soon as it goes international because INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING is pricy. @u@ The store shazzbaa.com/store.php is closed until October, but I'll definitely announce on my page when it reopens! *u*

Shazzbaa In reply to 19646 [2013-08-22 21:42:52 +0000 UTC]
Oh, I've shipped stuff to Sweden before! At the moment, it looks like a poster would cost about $38 USD if you want a tracking number and guaranteed refund if it does not reach you, but if you just want to ship it first class without worrying about tracking it's closer to $13 USD? International shipping will all be laid out plainly when I get the store back up, but right now I'm actually changing my shipping system so those numbers should be close but might not be exact!

38 would be a bit too pricey for me, but the 13 would hit closer to home. How long will that take?
