Wooo, one of the first pics I've seen of myself in that cosplay!This is Gally (also known as Alita) from the manga/anime Gunnm (Battle Angel Alita). This is one of my childhood heroines
This wasn't taken during my official shoot. I was just hanging out with friends, and a nice photographer took some shots.

I am willing to bet a lot more people would recognize it than you'd think. GUNNM/Battle Angel Alita is my favorite manga ever, and it's a true classic. Too bad there was never much of an anime. Maybe that James Cameron film will finally break it through to the mainstream... if and when it ever comes out.
I'd love to see it next year ^^ This was my first Otakon and I definitely intend to come back for years to come.

Maybe...but most people who recognized it were older (30+). If there had been a better anime, I guess it would have been more popular. I think people have the tendency to watch more anime than read manga.
I wonder if the movie would have been awesome...but with James Cameron, you can't go wrong (I think). Anyway, we'll see if it ever comes out.

True. I typically watch anime and rarely read manga but GUNNM was an exception. Of course, I did watch the few animated vids for GUNNM (The 2 OVAs and the little 3D animation) but that was after reading the manga. And I'm not too old, just turned 28 XP

It was the opposite for me. I have a huge manga collection XD (well, probably nothing to some people's collections...but still, it doesn't fit all in one bookshelf XD ) I buy less these days, I just buy certain series (Berserk, Bastard!!, Gunnm Last Order, Fairy Tail -I know I know, but I loved the mangaka first series XD-, Deadman Wonderland and Black Lagoon) and I buy like 1 or 2 manga per month.
I watch anime with friends every week though. We decide certain series so it's not like I watched everything XD

Hah, no worries I actually have the first 2 seasons of Fairy Tail. Haven't watched it too much, but it's nothing too shameful. I don't really care for hype or popularity when it comes to picking anime/manga. If a series manages to catch my interest I'll watch it and give it a fair chance. Hell I still follow Naruto... though I'd never admit it in person XD
Good selection there. Deadman Wonderland is the most recent series to grab my attention. I very much like the Elfen Lied feeling its got going, can't wait for the rest of it. I don't really watch that much anime... I couldn't recognize even half of the cosplays people were wearing at Otakon this year. I only watch a series after being prodded to do so enough times (or seeing a really good amv for it or something, I'm a sucker like that). As a result I know a lot of superb but not-well-known series, miss out on most mainstream stuff.
Actually though I prefer anime for a different reason than most people. I'm half Japanese. When I was a kid my family would send me untranslated anime and manga so I got used to watching things in their original language. Thing is, I'm not fluent in Japanese and I can't read Kanji so subtitled anime just makes the most sense. I understand enough to get the gist before reading the subtitles.
Forgive the rambling, I get all excited when I hear words like Gunnm or Black Lagoon

Haha okay. I didn't watch the anime, we had started watching it with friends, but stopped because people didn't like it that much. I would have continued, but eh, I buy the manga.
Oh me neither, I read/watch something because it interests me or because a close friend really recommended it. I own some really obscure series XD but I don't mind mainstream from time to time....I used to watch Naruto and love it to death! XD
Elfen Lied was great. I didn't watch the anime though. I should.

Sorry for the massively late reply, I got really busy with school work and stuff. Might have mentioned that I returned to college for the first time in years, and I'm really trying to do things right this time.
Anyhow, ah, Naruto has been my guilty pleasure (lol). Elfen Lied is great, and the anime style is quite nice though it's a shame the story ends so early.
Love the photo shoot, more Gally is so badly needed (love the posing btw). Now you just need her desert combat suit, honestly that was always my favorite look XD

Ah! Je savais que quelqu'un le mentionnerait. En fait, après mûre réflexion, j'ai décidé de ne pas les mettre puisque je faisais la version innocente de Gally au tout début du manga avant qu'elle perd un ou deux "écrous" suite à la mort de Yugo
L'annΓ©e prochaine, je vais faire sa version "combat" avec des armes et les marques sur le visage
