Acrylics are great : D they take some getting used to, and you have to be careful sometimes (e.g. you can't always cover up darker colours with lighter ones, but as I see it depends on the brand and specific colour...), but overall they are so much fun and produce beautiful colours : )

Well, blending colours is pretty easy, and fun at that! ^^
The truth is, the smartest thing I can say is: experiment and don't be afraid to use your paint! Have you bought some yet? The kind I use comes in pretty large tubes, so I don't have to worry even if I mess up with blending the colours and I have to use much paint
When blending the colours for my background or a 'base colour' (that will cover big OR important areas of the pic), I don't blend those on the canvas but on a palette, separately. Later, when adding shadows/highlights/etc, I do that on the canvas directly. One thing that you might want to be cautious with, is how much water you use, cause it can have a great effect on how the colours cover each other or the canvas. But I can't really give a tip on that, again, you have to find out yourself what works best! I myself like to use as little as possible, but sometimes more is better for the blending.
Also, I prefer painting on canvas, but acrylics work just as well on paper, so if you feel you don't want to spend on a canvas while still learning, watercolor paper is a good option too!

Well I haven't used any yet xD even if I got paint, since I don't really know what to do. I just know that in watercolours I got tiny blocks that I get colour from, then use water to makes the paint thinner, perhaps acrylics are the same?
Right now I just got paper for watercolour

Beautiful painting; the characters stand out well against the baqckground, and there is a certain sadness to this piece. I particularly like the hands of the dragon, they are different to what I usually see, and the long slender fingers make the dragon seem more wise and gentle.
