The Pyke Commander Ruep Keyn was like most of his species originating from Oba Diah and had been part of the criminal organization of spice dealers, Pyke Syndicate, was led by Lom Pyke who would fall under influence of Darth Maul and Savage Opress under the Shadow Collective, whom they were allied with. After the Fall of Darth Maul parts of them came under influence of Count Dooku when he conquered some of the worlds they operated from. Some Pyke therefore switched sides, seizing the opportunity and joined the Separatist Alliance, the Confederacy of Independent Systems. One of these Pykes was Ruep Keyn who would serve the more criminal and illegal operations of the Trade Federation with his wisdom, smuggling illegal goods, like spive and even Separatist organic and droid Agents, Saboteurs and Assassins deep into Galactic Republic Territory, as well as operate smuggling and space pirate ships often operating illegally under Republic and later Imperial colors, insignia and stolen older codes that still checked out. Highly criminal activity under all galactic powers and governments, the Separatists, Imperials and partly even the Republic had all partaken in such activities to cripple enemy supply lines and resource support for their industries. This way they hoped to stop the enemy production and capabilities to wage this Clone War. Over time Captain Ruep Keyn rose the ranks of the Trade Federation military forces up to Commander and managed to led a small fleet of Separatist Smuggler and Space Pirate ships in coordinated operations deep behind Republic and Imperial lines, often cooperation far apart from one another, but with similar goals, to tie down as much Republic Fleet forces hunting these smuggler and space pirate ships and divert them from the front-lines against the Separatist Alliance as possible. As the leader of this operations, Pyke Commander Ruep Keyn became a wanted Separatist criminal by the Republic and the Empire, despite not having a major rank or many won battles to his name, as other top wanted Confederate Commanders. His connections to the Pyke Syndicate and his knowledge about the Galactic Criminal Underworld however made him a dangerous enemy.

Republic Intelligence therefore planned to find out which ship was crewed by him and his closer circle of soldiers, to target it above all others during their counter-operations. However, unlike Republic Intelligence believed, Pyke Commander Ruep Keyn had not been aboard, never leaving his secret mane base of Operations in the Mid Rim, but instead using his second in command another Pyke to pose as him, something he had learned during his time in the Pyke Syndicate as rivals and people wishing to trick, fool and even kill their leaders had been everywhere. The Republic therefore celebrated a major victory when killing a single Separatist Space Pirate ship, unaware they had targeted the wrong Pyke captain and commander aboard it, someone made to look and sound like Ruep Keyn trough cybernetics and surgery, who had learned his manners and way to behave perfectly to imitate him. For a few months afterwards the Separatist smuggling and raid changed, as Pyke Commander Ruep Keyn prepared a new offensive and was operating in another part of the Galaxy against the Hutt to completely fool the Republic and make them believe their assassination of him had worked. His return with new crews, droids and ships in before unknown numbers and operations during the Liberation of the Rim therefore was a major surprise for the Galactic Republic and the Imperial Remnants, a true shock that caught most of them off-guard. Because of this Republic supply liens, retreating forces and even military installations suffered losses from these Smugglers, Space Pirates and regular Separatist Forces, only increasing the crushing defeats they had against the massive Separatist Reserved activated in the Outer Rim to push them back to the Inner Rim and Colonies. It quickly dawned on the Republic and Imperials that the Pyke Commander Ruep Keyn was still alive but at the time they had much worse Separatist Commanders inclusion Count Dooku to worry about and tried, sometimes successful, sometimes fruitless to target these in the upper ranks. Therefore Pyke Commander Ruep Keyn continued to operate against enemies of the Trade Federation and the Separatist Alliance to bring those opposing the Confederacy of Independent Systems down to their knees.
