Not many people knew that the Staff Weapons mostly used under Sun God and Supreme System Lord Ra’s Dynasty had not been the first the Goa’uld had reversed engineered from Ancients/ Lantean or Ori Staff weapons. Like with most stolen and reverse-engineered technology, the early Goa’uld versions were bulky and technological inferior to the originals in what they archived, similar to the Ancient Healing Cube and the later Sarcophagus and other technology as well. Earliest Staff weapons under the Dynastic rule of Atok and Apep were therefore much closer to the later Staff canons and had to be trusted into the ground with their lower part to give them additional stability and accuracy, as well as enable the Unas and later early Unas-Jaffa to hold and fire them for a longer amount of time. This would slowly change when Anubis, Ra and Hades (Sokar) rose to power when smaller, more accurate and much lighter versions of the Staff weapon were created, leading to the later Ma’Tok staff that would become a standardized version of the weapon during the End of the First and the begin of the Second Goa’uld Dynasty. During this time, first Goa’uld would also try to improve or adapt the concept further to fit better with their own special elite Jaffa Guard types, their mythology, or simply to gain an upper hand over rivals and opponents. Smaller and longer Staff weapon types were designed to be used in special formations, or while mounting war animals of various kind. Overall Jaffa and even human Tar warrior armor increased in quality and overall protection of more parts of the warriors body until it would become the fully surrounding, sometimes even hermetically sealed model under Supreme System Lord Ra and his underling System Lords and System Ladies most elite Jaffa Guard variants. While most human Tar warriors would often only have a torso plate and/ or chain-mail as well as sometimes a helmet plate (known as the Calvaria armor helm or scalp armor), if any at all, most Jaffa had plated armor and full helmets (most with animal or other mythological motives fitting for their Goa’uld Lord and Lady). Some Jaffa Elite Guards even had additional optic sensors put into them like infrared night-vision, motion detectors, vision enhancement, targeting systems, flare compensation, yes sometimes even linked to a scanning device, or a camera at the Staff weapon tip to allow for a better aim.

Other elite Jaffa Guards used various animal and mythological helmets to have a higher and wider field of vision with them, while at the same time, protecting their head further down within the neck-region of such specialized Jaffa helmets. While Asgard warrior Viking, Valkyrie and other horn-helmets had been once inspired by the horns of defeated Goa’uld Unas hosts, Jaffa-Unas and Unas warriors alike, but so were some Goa’uld inspired by the mythology, armor and weapons that the Asgard soldiers or others wielded. Some were special like the Lightning (Zat) and Thunder (Sonic blast) Staff weapon variants of Raiden, or the Stone/ Statue Staff weapons that Medusa’s Gorgone Jaffa wielded had their origin in Ancient or other alien technology stolen by the Goa’uld and the gods guarded any secret that gave them dominance and hegemony over others (even of their own kind) strongly to remain in power or gain even more power for themselves. Even the Asgard partially copied the Goa’uld weapon design, at least in their Shock Spears (Shock Staff) and Shock Swords that they provided their Protected Planets local guards and warriors with specialized weapons that were intended to hurt and stun those with symbiote (Goa’uld and Jaffa alike). This way they could protect their worlds efficiently, while the Goa’uld even if they won a skirmish, raid, or battle had no advanced Asgard technology they could capture, steal and reverse engineer in any way or form. Most varieties of Staff weapons and Jaffa armor were directly linked to the various cultural and religious background of the various Goa’uld Lords and Ladies, their societies and history that had experienced certain things, even if the overall basis of them mostly remained the same. This lead to some very specific variants, even some more modern and smaller ones, a few that could shoot much more accurate and faster then most Goa’uld Staff weapons and even a few fully automatized robot variations of those weapons in some places of the Milky Way Galaxy.
