Description Sometimes we need to be reminded how large the universe is.

This is taken at shell's beach, north of Bodega Bay and just south of Russian River, CA USA

I will be uploading a few of these images. It was pretty stormy outside but these waves were 15-35ft high. Many times they climbed the rocks and cliffs as if to slap me in the face! I was delighted beyond measure.

You know how you play catch with the surf by running in and out and it tries to get your toes? Well this was like he was trying to play with me and I was trying to catch him with my camera. Some shots were literally huge sprays above me. They seem to be just sheets of white in the photograph but I will see what I can dig out of it all.

I hope you enjoy these.

Really kickin' waves!!! Hope you stayed mostly dry at least.

I love how you captured the crash, the roll, and some rocks, too. Awestruck!!!

What a great day it was for waves!! I was down on the pier in Santa Cruz and wondering what they may have been like at Mavericks. I love the ocean when it is stormy. Very nice photo of it!

I know exactly what you mean, Shell. I took a lot of images like that in our trips up and down the coast this winter. What really bothers me is that I know how huge those waves were, but it just doesn't translate so well to still images. In this one you can tell it is a big wave, but without something to compare it with you just don't see the truly enormous scale. I have just the one with a man and his dog so you can sort of get the idea of the scale. Even then, the impact just isn't quite there. I guess you just have to be there to really appreciate it, don't you?

Lucky you to have the opportunity to be there so much! Here is my image, just in case you haven't already seen it. [link] I don't think this one was a 30 footer, but it easily exceeded 10 feet. Don't you think?
