So I was playing chess with Daricio over the phone. "knight to E5!" sorry. But anyhoo, as we were cleaning up, I had this creepy mental image of Aizen staring straight forward with his arms folded saying "check mate" and in front of him was a chess board with all the pieces being people. The black side consisted of captains and Ichigo's friends while the white side consisted of the espada and other arrancar.

Obviously, this didn't turn out the way I wanted it. I couldn't find a good reference pic of Aizen, and I already knew from my doodles that I can't draw him at all free handed. So, this was the best I could do.

After I drew Aizen, I realized I had almost no room for the chess board. That's why it's kind of shoved in a corner and why Aizen is sitting really close to the table.

Aizen's hair wanted to be an affro when it grew up. Seriously. I erased that stupid fro three times before it finally looked like his hair was in fact only slicked back like that.

I used no reference pics or rulers for the chess board or its pieces. Thus is why it fails. I wanted to have Ulquiorra in his final release, but I wanted it to still look like a chess piece, his wings would effectively cover everything, and I had no references, and this is the only way I know how to draw him from my doodles. Though, I thought that the empty eyes made him look utterly adorable. It's so cute it's creepy. I also don't know what Orihime looks like normally and didn't bother finding a reference.

Ok, that little head down in the corner is Ishida. Just so you know. And Ulquiorra is apparently a knight. Except that he has to also kill Ishida once he gets rid of Ichigo if it is to match how the manga is going at the moment. So Ulqiourra's a mix between a knight and a queen. Scary.

We're not sure why Orihime is white. And you would think that she would be a pawn because that's how Aizen used her. But, I really don't think it's possible for pawns to get into their own back row... So we're not sure. Or we could not assign them any roles and toss all rules of chess out the window, and pretend that Aizen is just moving the pieces.

Oh, yeah... We are not sure exactly who Aizen is playing against. It can't be Ichigo, and I don't trust Yammamoto as far as I can throw him to lead everyone around. The only person who could possibly be playing against Aizen that has control of both shinigami and Ichigo's friends would be Urahara... And I'm not sure about that... He's kind of doing his own thing, really...

I'm not sure if Ichigo is the king here being check mated. Dunno. The king is usually pretty useless, which doesn't fit Ichigo at all.
