They are the most cheerful, friendly and optimistic among wolves which I met. So I've sometimes thought they looked like dogs.

I just mean they don't look pure timber, but I'm not a pro at phenotyping. I mostly just watch other people talking about that sort of thing for art reasons/interest.Β wolfdogeducation.com/image/157β¦

They may very well be, they just look suspicious, (though I'd have to see some other angles honestly, and they're definitely wolf enough to be wolves in a zoo). I do know that the black coloration that pops up in wolves is a dog only mutation, so at least waaaaaay somewhere back there they would have at least one dog in their lineage.Β

I think your comments is not polite. If your opinion is right, Americans are liars and American zoo gave a fake wolf to Japanese zoo because that 3 wolves are brothers, the sons of a beautiful black female wolf which came from America. Are you really thinking so?
Black fur of timber wolves originates genes of one dog (which went to America continent with ancestry of native Americans) several thousand or several ten thousand years ago.
It's very famous thing. But if your opinion is right, almost (or all) wolves in North America is not pure wolves, because black fur is "the tip of the iceberg" of one dog's genes.
You should learn more genetics. Even if your ancestry who came from Europe are "pure" white people, some part of their far ancestry who lived several thousand years ago obviously came from Arabia, India and Asia. That is to say, they are coloured people as me. The conception of genes is always very ambiguous. "Pure" is an idiot discussion in genetics.

Uhhhhhhhhhh, didn't mean to be rude. You're right, purity means very little here, just content levels, which are probably high enough not to matter either way. They just look questionably doggy to me in some minor ways, which might just be coincidental. The black fur thing was just a throw in trivia thing, it means even less.Β
I do know of several instances where not so great zoos misrepresent their 'wolves', which end up not being wolves at all, or have very little wolf in them. It's a thing that happens in America more than it should anyway. I don't think your zoo is doing that at all, don't get me wrong, it's just something that I look for now. In this case it doesn't really matter either way, because even if they were just high content wolves (which they look like AT LEAST) then they're wolf enough to represent wolves. There is a danger when people misrepresent wolves as dogs or dogs as wolves, since you end up with a lot of euthanized dogs because people can't tell the difference.Β
I promise, I'm not trying to pick a fight, I'll keep further thoughts to myself. Sorry sorry.
