Description
The red-armoured tiger warrior fighting Takeru is named Hyobu (兵部) and is a samurai from a neighbouring region. He is a rival with whom Takeru has fought many times, and like Takeru, he has the blood of Oni (Japanese demons). He is interested in Takeru because of their oni blood, and even though they are enemies, he dared to save Takeru when he was falling into a castle with infant children. Due to the difference in age and size, Takeru has always a tough time in battle against Hyobu.

Hyobu is brave, loyal and single-mindedly manly. He is still young and new among the neighbouring lords' clan, and the old vassals envy him for his competence and success in his career. He is a man who can pay attention to detail, has the confidence of his lord and superiors, and is, in a word, a man who can do his job. However, he is fierce and unforgiving when his subordinates make mistakes, and his stand-up on the battlefield is also noticeable. On the other hand, he is also a man of law, and keeps his word even to his enemies.

The model for the tiger warrior Hyobu is Ii Naomasa. He is one of the famous and popular samurai among warriors in the Sengoku piriod (Warring States piriod). His nickname was Aka-Oni (Red Demon) and his childhood name was Toramatsu. (Tora means "tiger")

As previously explained, Oni in Japan is translated as Demon in English, but whereas in the West Demon is interpreted as a purely evil being, Oni in Japan does not only have the same connotations of evil as Demon in the West, but also have the meaning of a strong, scary and courageous warrior. Strong, scary and courageous... In the West, Thor in Norse mythology may be close to this.
In particular, when a samurai is nicknamed Oni, it can be interpreted as a compliment, with those around him praising his strength.
