Description
I'm sure some of you remember my pristine NES and SNES:It was only fitting that I'd try to get my hands on a well preserved Game Boy, something just about all my friends had back in the day, while my parents said I wasn't allowed to have one, as it's a toy for dumb children. In the end, I did end up buying a Game Boy Color from my pocket money (and my parents then took it away from me after I spent the entire day playing on it) but for some reason, I still wanted to have an old one. Not really for gaming, but as a keepsake for a part of my 90s youth that I wasn't allowed to participate in.
Bought it from a store that specializes in old videogame consoles, and upon receiving it, I noticed a little bit of dust under the display lens, but only on one side. And when I pried a fingernail under the bottom left corner, the entire lens popped off, revealing very crusty and brittle glue that held it in place for decades and now decided to quit. I originally just wanted to re-glue it with epoxy resin, but then, a friend's roommate heard about my endeavour and gave me his Game Boy (that he had since he was 6 or so) free of charge (and a Game Boy Advance too). However, it was yellowed and quite worn, with a screen that was much more scratched (and also came off after I gently pushed against it from inside during disassembly).
In the end, I took the worn one apart completely, washed all parts thoroughly, cleaned the area around the screen and then glued the other device's screen lens in place, which was far less scratched. And to appease my perfectionism, I bought a new lens for the well preserved unit. I even went to the trouble of taking it along to work with me, using an airgun hooked up to a liquid nitrogen dewar to get all dust particles out of the way before sticking the new lens in place. The result speaks for itself I think.
Now I just need a Game Boy Pocket.

Good thing they were included in the original package.

How else could you convince a parent to buy it for a kid? Do you think any mother wants to listen to the "Tetris" theme music through a tinny speaker all day long?

Aah many great memories with thisone, I still have mine back from the early 90s and it still runs great!
Hope you get your hand on a Pocket, good preserved ones are quite hard to find as the color came shortly after.
Whats the next addition a Nintedo 64 or is that too "new"

Heh, that's a good question! xD I think the N64 was too unsuccessful to spark any interest in me... I have some strange and probably not understandable reasoning to like or dislike a gaming console (and keep in mind, I never had or used any of them when they were new). Interestingly, I think the GameCube is quite interesting, even though it was also more or less a flop. But I like how the controllers look, being the last Nintendo console with regular buttons n shit before the Wii came along (which I hade xD).
