My story for that is actually quite different. 

Revan leads the Republic after the death of Chancellor Janarus at the hands of Gladius Fett, the bounty hunter working with Darths Tormen and Occlus. And he leads the Republic the same way he did so during the Mandalorians Wars: with an iron fist. Jedi are allowed and encouraged to use the Dark Side against the Republic's enemies, senators with dissenting opinions or subversive activities are sent to Belsavis, and the military has to take orders from him no matter what, or else HK-47 has them fragged and removed from their posts. Satele leads the Jedi on behalf of Revan, along with Bastila who was imprisoned with Revan 300 years ago, but she's getting wary of her ancestor whose Dark-Side leanings are turning the Republic into the very same thing it was fighting against. As Jorgan says, "What we've gained in efficiency we've lost in soul". Revan would have been a better leader for a Republic that's slowly getting corrupted into a dictatorship, unlike Saresh whom people really didn't care for.
