Description
size: 14cm from top to toeThis is one of my favourite pieces. But it's also the one that took me by far the longest time to get the right materials. It was so hard to get the colours I imagined. Believe me or not, I have searched three years to get those great beads: high-quality japanese delica beads. I have not worked with them before, but they instantly convinced me. The quality of these beads is simply outstanding. So, to all the beaders out there: Try them out, they are worth their money!
The colour concept of the bird is fully done by me, I only used some guidelines for the body itself. I tried to make it look like a flame, as a phoenix always goes up in flames before it is reborn from the ashes. The branch it is sitting on is also done by me without guidlines.

Guidelines out of: Torsten Becker, Fantasy-Perlentiere (Motive aus Mythologie und Fantasy), Frechverlag

It took longer than I usually need for my pieces, yes but it's been ok

It must've been hard for you to seal the end of the wires to prevent the beads from slipping off, eh? I like the way how its wing-feathers individually hang from its wings, not to mention the amount of colours it has.
Even if I'm looking at it, I can't even tell how you'd managed to make the decision to switch to another colour without making a huge contrast.
Congratulations on the DD!!

Thanks a lot!! oh well yes the colours... I started the wing about three times to get this gradient
And about the feathers: The beads don't slip off because I went through each one of them twice with the same wire

You're quite welcome.
Three times of slipping the beads in one-by-one then slide them off when you found the colours not to you taste, not to mention the number of feathers on this Phoenix? Wow, it must've been a tiring process for your hands, cause I don't think I could have the patience to repeat it.
I think I might've seen that technique in the bead-tree that I'd bought.

miyuki? should've asked me.... (you only had to go through a few million members, where's your... sorry! ) I do know about beads quite a bit as my ex was a dealer in everything from pre-columbian coral to venetian glass... anyway, what I'm really saying is I'm glad you found your beads; and I admire the patience to wait 'til the right ones met you... I've got the feeling of the Firebird ballet from this piece, but that's because I was a dancer.. that's just me... Question: Is it free-standing? (btw I'm writing this before looking at the rest of your gallery so...)
Bravo! concept well executed, nice touches with the branches and the head / claws details... all in all I hope you're happy with it, if you are then I am too... my very best wishes, Peter.
(btw: If you're not: you don't deserve the compliments ... we all look forward to our next pieces... as I shall, yours)

Yeah, next time I'll ask you To answer your question: It can cling to the branch on its own, but it won't sit there without further support. Therefore... was not that easy to get some decent photos
And yes, I'm totally happy with the result but as always there's still room for improvement
Thanks for your kind words by the way, I really appreciate it

well done with the pix then! and: you are most welcome, you earnt the comp's...
btw: I'm sorry...I'm stupid!, or at the very least, badly phrased my question... what I meant was: I couldn't see a support for the branch and therefore wondered if it was free standing...or just a device for the camera? too well-made for just a device.. if your bird is wired, (no pun intended...), couldn't its feet and tail provide a tripod? more questions! aaaargh!
later, P.

no it's not free standing it's just that single branch and I wrapped the ends around some kind of device so i would have my hands free for photographing
however it's withstanding the weight of the bird almost on its own. You're right about the bird it's done out of wire but the thing with the tripod would not be possible at least not in that pose. I'd have to bend its tail feathers up and also most of the feathers in the wings so it could stand alone. Wouldn't look like a majestic firebird anymore
btw I don't mind your questions at all! fell free to ask
That's why we're here, to benefit from each others knowledge

sweet! I heard that my friend...
btw: firebird was also 1st ballet I ever saw... when I was about 5.5 at Anna Pavlova's house in Hampstead, London, there was only about 50 seats..

This piece is very well done and made. You've thought a lot about the negative spaces also and there's a marvelous sense of the wind moving through the feathers. Choice of colors and the patterns works wonderfully well. It's a job well done!
