"The power of the mind - I wish I could read your mind" was the concept I chose to look into for my latest Illustration course assignment. It's depicting how the world can be seen through a child's eyes. His innocence and imagination is what's protecting him from the harsh surroundings of reality.

30+ hours in Photoshop 7.

That reminds me of a poem that I read.... "Children's Eyes" is the title but I forget the author. Beautiful work, very colorful and sending a bold message.

So randomly, I was looking at the gravel and rubble in the picture and I saw a piece of it as a tiki face. I mean, it's completely irrational to see in there, but that's what my imagination created.

And then my mind was brought to the Enchanted Tiki Room at Disneyland in the US. I know you might not have seen this thing, but it's fantastic. It's filled with robotic bird, flowers and tiki faces that sing and move. It's really great. And the audience is sitting among and beside and below all of it. I hope you get to see it if you haven't already. It's one of my favorite places to be.

Oh, and the picture is amazingly lovely and powerful. I love how the teddy bear's eye is falling out. It's a small touch that actually made me think quite a bit.

beautiful picture... very cynical worldview. i mean, to say that the only way one can see beauty in the world is through ignorance or imagination. or to say that there IS no true innocence or beauty in reality, but only in a certain naive perspective. perhaps this was not your intent, but that is what i took from it. the style and detail are amazing, as i'm sure you've been told all too many times... i just don't particularly agree with the meaning that i took from it.

Sheridan-J In reply to carteret [2006-06-24 07:15:06 +0000 UTC]

I dont agree either But that was a really good interpretation I was pretty much aiming to show the innocence of childhood, but what you have said has made me think this over again hehe.

Ahh! It hurts my brain! Thanks for the comment!

RevenantMinx [2006-06-24 05:39:08 +0000 UTC]

I love psychological art! This is very interesting and I think everyone yearns for the innocence of childhood before we were able to recognize the evilness or disappointment of reality (in comparison with what we used to imagine). Makes me think about times long gone when I was able to believe if I wanted something bad enough, I could make it happen. I love the contrast of the imagination and the reality. This inspires me to do something with the same idea in mind. Great job!

That-is awesome. Especially in digital art (which is what I can't do well quite yet-well, with the software). You deserved that feature :3 I love how the boy, the doll and the teddy bear are in the globe-looking-thing while the world around them is destroyed ^^

Swordexpert-Stock In reply to ??? [2006-06-24 02:00:39 +0000 UTC]

Brilliant concept. Very well executed.

The beauty within
an unaffected child.
A child who knows nothing,
about the iniquity that lingers around them.
Refined innocence
not yet condemed by
society and the exceeding
brutality of this world.
A higher power,
the power of goodness and purity
that could only be found,
In the heart of a child.
