Description
I'm thinking of creating a step-by-step walkthrough on how this was made. It won't be a thorough tutorial, since I don't have any screen shots from the actual progress, but more of a layer-by-layer kinda thing. I'll try the best I can to explain every layer and how it was created.
The biggest reason for this is that I want to show this is not a photo manip, since I've had some people thinking it was (not here on dA). Since I know myself it's not a manip, I guess I'll take those comments as a compliment!
My, this actually turned out much better than I expected (too bad it's too small to submit as a print).
This was made for a competition on VHR ( [link] ) and is supposed to depict the color "Snow". Most people would probably picture it as a horse made of snow, but I got this image in my head instead. An arabian just standing there, with her eyes closed enjoying the gentle snowfall.
Painted in Photoshop with my trusty Wacom (and some filters for the falling snow).
Around 4-5 hours.

Well, I *was* going to do a tutorial on this piece, but I've only done the first part of it, and I doubt I'll ever actually finish it. If you'd like to see, I do have the part I've finished here: [link]
I haven't uploaded any references pics to go with it though, as it says in the tut, but if you wanna see those as well, I'll try searching for them.
I don't really work like this anymore, now I use a slightly adjusted technique based on *Losmios ' tutorial (you can find it in her scraps, if you're interested).

That's beautiful. I think the snow that's settled on him is what makes it look so real, it's a very nice touch I think most people wouldn't have thought. Or at least I wouldn't have XD

Wow, I want to know how you did that snow on her coat. It looks so effotless as opposed to one of my snow paintings I've been painting for over five months now.
I don't know why I don't care about that falling snow too much. Perhaps it looks a bit too filtered. Or just oo fast for the rest of the pic. Other than that, it's a great portrait, good concept.

ooh I can almost feel the cold. I like the fine powdery look of the snow on her coat, snow fallen on a horse's coat is hard to depict... I've tried XD
very very nice!

It's not that hard really, I followed this tutorial [link] for the falling snow, and an original Photoshop brush for the snow on the arabian's head. It's all about trial and error really, you'll do just fine.
