Damn, this looks really good! The pure white really helps bring the folds forward. I love the detail!

this looks very nice. you've handled the medium so delicately! I can't do something like that, I like more stark contrasts, but i really like the subtleties in this piece! When i squint at the piece, it really pops. It is nicely done. I like how you kept all of the edges soft...I have a real problem with that.
Good job!! And thanks for letting me know that you finished your drapery study!

why thank you for your kind words. my teacher was really impressed with it but gave me all sorts of points on how to do it better. she said all the soft edges shouldn't be there in places where the fabric ends, and that the fair back fabrics in the top left should be darker to show they're further back.
i love working with conte and charcoal. there very manageable and soft by nature and thus perfect for a drapery study. all those soft edges were made by simply running a piece of tissue over everything as i worked to soften the texture, then go back over it with more conte to redefine areas and back them brighter or darker than the paper. the best for this is to use the darkest paper possible, cause this medium gray paper didn't really cut it, the ones people did in class on the darker papers were so stunning. they literally popped off the paper.
wowz, long reply..

Yes, I like a lot of contrast in pieces...but sometimes pieces that have very subtle variations in tone can be stunning too. If you squint at your piece, it does pop off of the paper as well. But when you are just looking at it, it doesn't really pop. I still think it is very nice though!

i like it too, and am very proud of myself with this.
but it's just a note for next time if i do another one, making everything on the paper lighter with just white conte is much easier if you start really dark.
