Description
In celebration of the release of FF7 Remake, here's fanart of Aerith, in the style of the artwork from another game called Etrian Odyssey. An unexpected combo, but I wanted to both try imitating the EO series art style and draw Aerith, so I figured... why not do both? And this is the result. xD Both of these games were a part of my childhood, so I did my best to do both justice. I hope yall enjoy ^^---
So I wanted to try out the EO style, which took a lot of sketching and resketching of the lineart, using some official character art as reference. Not sure if I nailed the body shape down, but I hope I got close. EO has an interesting style where the head is big (like usual anime style) but the body gets increasingly smaller below the head and down. It wasn't as prominent in the first game as it was in later games, though. I find it kind of chibi-esque. Luckily Aerith's character design wasn't too difficult to do in another style. The EO style also had hard shadows indicating darker shading which, while not uncommon in art, wasn't something I usually do. I ended up integrating that with my lineart, though I did have to go back in later to adjust or add more. The rest of the shading was more familiar territory, though I almost tried to do gradient shading before reminding myself that that was not very EO-like (I was distracted by Persona art style, maybe another time lol). I took some liberties with some minor details (like highlighting) to try and make it make sense in my head. Though I'm sure I missed plenty of details in other areas (I've been facepalming over some details of Aerith I missed in the lineart that is too late to change now lol). Despite this, overall, I'm happy with the result.
Also I did a gradient for the background again, you can't stop me from gradient-ing! xD
