Gabriel is a natural introvert, and tends to avoid larger groups of people. Even if he could speak, he wouldn't, at least not that often. Because he has strict morals, or at least has strong feelings about what he considers right and wrong, Gabriel keeps his opinions to himself, and isn't one to pick a fight. Gabriel always looks like he's staring at something in the distance. At times, it's because he uses it to ward off people from approaching him, but most take it as him just being really distracted all the time . Even if you were to somehow get him to be comfortable around you, he'd still have the same far away look. Because his purifier lacks any functionality for him to speak, he communicates mainly through writing on whatever's near him. Worse comes to worse, he'll bat his wings and respond with how he looks at you.

As much as he doesn't want people to approach him all at once, he loves to indulge in conversations. Just listening to others - he could listen to someone talk all day, though, most get annoyed by the fact he rarely responds with anything but random wing flapping . Still, if someone he's close to is willing to talk, he'll listen. What he doesn't need is a hoard of friends, but just a few to keep away the loneliness wouldn't hurt.

Track description/interpretation:
To start off, I took a lot of inspiration out of this piece explicitly and some hints here and there implicitly. It's a song that you enjoy, really, without words, since the original lyrics were in Latin. I wanted to translate that into a simple design, with colors that don't clash and nothing too bright. The chords blend together so well and so harmoniously that I wanted to keep that same harmony in Gabriel's palette, and designed him with desaturation and color harmony in mind. The original song opens with the opening verse of the Angelus Domini, hailing Mary as she is visited by the Angel of God. This is where the more angelic aspects of his design come in - as well as his name - since biblically, the angel that visited Mary and Joseph was Gabriel. The wings on Gabriel, and also his blue sweater, represent the fact that this was the US Airforce Brass in Blue's performance of the piece.

His mask, hands across his mouth and guarded by wings, is another liberty I took with the interpretation of the song. It's meant to symbolize the Hands of Heaven and how in the Bible, Gabriel serves God and is pretty much the Hand of Heaven.

To me, the song is just warm and enveloping, ear candy. Even without the lyrics, the chord progressions just give that soaring feeling that comes with these religious chant pieces. It's ephemeral and uncomplicated, driven more by harmonies then by rhythm.

Gabriel was normal in every aspect of the word. In his younger years, he was surrounded by people all the time. There was never a time he felt lonely or left out; he was just always there . He loved to talk and talk and talk; he used to love the sound of his own voice. It was a pretty pretentious thing to say, but it was what he loved. He loved to listen to himself, and he loved it when others listened to him. As much as he loved making others listen to him, he couldn't force them to listen. Over time, people stopped listening, they didn't care what he had to say. As soon as he opened his mouth, someone spoke over him, or the topic changed completely. Gabriel didn't know why this happened, what had changed. Maybe they were tired of him? Was he that annoying? He couldn't figure it out, and began to stray further and further away from people. It was his own distorted perception that made him think no one was listening. It ate at him and gradually, he gave up on trying to converse with others, because the fact that no one wanted to listen to him was a stab every time he remembered it.

Eventually, as he was silent already, he found his way to the Sound Engineer, and had his voice stripped. Thinking back on it now, Gabriel regrets it. It was such a rash decision...but there's nothing he can do about it now. Now, he can spare his time and listen to others. If someone listening was all he needed before, maybe he could be that person for someone else.
