Description Long time no post DA, I've been hard at work on my first book, Rangers Project: The Protectorate Wars. I've been keeping most of it's art held back for those who backed, pre-order, and in the future purchase it. I've been itching to post something though, and this is a good one I just finished, enjoy.

The Isles Protectorate has commenced it's war against the established super powers in the core of colonized space. Here, Kristen Marx leads here Elementals as the tip of the spear in a strike against Haenkel-Parvam Conglomerate worlds. In a trial by fire for the untested Protectorate and their Elementals, experimental shield technology proved pivotal as otherwise conventional power armored soldiers overpowered Conglomerate combat mechs. All eyes are now on this new force, and the great powers scramble to meet it.

For those interested, you can pre-order The Protectorate Wars digital art book on this blog page: therangersproject.blogspot.com… which along with netting you the digital PDF edition when complete, you also gain access to regular progress updates including a look at all artwork done along the way. All profits support my continued efforts on the Rangers Project. Thanks for everyone's support, I wouldn't be able to pull this stuff off without all the funding provided so far.

Totally understandable. I am just glad to have you posting again, I need my dose of sci-fi and have been deprived lately. Just good to have you back.

Keep up the good work.

Is it me or is the man in the suit look like a zombie? Great work! Me noticing the zombie part on my end is kinda scary xD. Just think about it. Intelligent zombie organisms.

She's just got bright yellow eyes, and some scaring on the skin around her tear ducts. Lighting is the cause of the bluish skin.

Interesting submission.

Interesting helmet, tactical looking gun, nice future tech material on the suit. Good attention to detail, and an interesting background.

I'm curious, do you make your funds from book receipts or donations? I'm just curious because I self-published a book once, but it did awful.

I launched the project through kickstarter, and continue to fund it through additional pre-orders, so it's all through sales rather than donations.
What's critical is quality art content and a large fan base (buyers), I hope that doesn't offend you, just an honest observation. You need to have something with enough quality to compete with established products, so that you can capture sales from even those who "shop around", and of course you can't move your product without people seeing it. I have thousands of watchers here on DA and ran a huge share campaign through FB's scifi art community and still just barely scraped together the funds to start my book.
Before you can expect to make your personal work profitable you need to work on that fan base. Continue to post as much work as possible to the internet, continually strive to improve your work, and do your best to interact well with your fans in order to be relatable.

Alright, I was eventually considering doing a kickstarter on an animation project. But something far different than the current projects I post, which are mostly just to see what I can whip together.

I appreciate the advice though, I will keep that in mind.

Just out of curiosity sake, what was your funding goal?

Here's it's page: www.kickstarter.com/projects/1…
Of course my book is a very different project to your animation. You also have to convince people of the costs you're covering. My funding goal was an amount needed to pay for everyone's time away from work they'd otherwise do. If you have material costs for your project you have to factor all that in. It's pretty complicated, and even I've ended up needing more funding, luckily I'm getting that extra through more pre-orders, and a miniatures project I've been a part of paying royalties.

Cool, definitely interesting stuff. Thanks for sharing it with me, I wasn't really sure how to get going on it or what the page should have. This gives me a much better idea.

Anyway, I hope your project succeeds; it's always great when people can make money doing what they love.

Yeah, this one came out really well, of course I wanted to do a really nice job for my main character.

Will we be getting any backstory specifically on her in the artbook?

My writer Enrique is putting together pretty extensive chunks of text for each piece of artwork, along with the writing input I have, so yes.
