Description Update 24-12-2009
1. Due to the many irrelevant comments I'm disabling the comment feature for this work. Sorry folks.
2. Yes, this is the drawing that Shia LaBeouf has tattooed on his ribcage.

This drawing is about being a prisoner of your own actions and choices. It shows how I felt when I was going through a tough period in my life.

- graphite on Lana drawing paper
- photo reference (my own hand)
- about 12 hours
- 12" x 9"

Hope you like it.

Reading the angry comments for this piece is making me laugh and, at the same time, making me annoyed.
I looked up "Drawing Hands" by M.C. Escher on google images (to see what all the fuss was about) and, while I agree that, yes, the idea is similar to this piece, it still doesn't make you an art thief. Honestly. It's like finding every painting of a smiling woman ever created and accusing each and every one of the artists of copying the Mona Lisa.

Technically this drawing is brilliant, perfect, splendid, etc…

That's where it ends.

The content is very boring: the title is purely reflected in the image and there's nothing more to look for. On top of that I think that the artist who drew this, is indeed chained artistically: chained by technical perfection, and that’s only as far has he/she goes. What is there more to this image than solely the virtuosity? Nothing, I've been seeing this drawing for over a few years and it has ceased to interest me a long time ago. It seems that lots of people here crave to have such an ability to draw like that. Why is that? It seems to me that it’s because of laziness. The mind is no longer forced to actually interpret the art work, it solely has to β€˜look’ at it to understand it: it’s technical sensation, fast-art, the art equivalent of fast-food (like so many artworks on the β€˜most-popular-ever’ page of this site). Though, if you β€˜see’ the artwork, you don’t see much at all.

It’s also compositionally not very rich, maybe because of the photo reference? The image looks like a snapshot; it seems the artist paid not enough attention when taking his reference photo, which results in a boring play of lines, as well as an uninteresting perspective. I can almost feel the pincushion distortion…

So do I like it? No, I don’t. If there’s one thing that art should do, it is to tell a story, to grab the attention of the viewer for more than two minutes. It should give you the impression that by looking at it, it continues to interest you and you keep discovering new things.

Some people have all the talent, and You My friend are one of those people.
I actually stared at it for a few minutes before I realized that it was all one drawing and not a photo of a person drawing.
Its so neat and tidy and its pretty much perfect. I cant see anything wrong with it at all. By the way, Whos that guy that people assume is Your role model? Becuase You know what they say. Assume makes an ass of You and Me.
