DescriptionA really long time ago, DragonXborne was talking about one of her character's features and I told her I'd try my hand and drawing it. And then I never did! Until just now, which it was about time.So here is a long-overdue gift for DragonXborne of her Deep Space Dragon character named Vortex. I really wanted to draw a fullbody of this dragon but it takes me so long to do artwork these days I decided to settle with a painted bust instead of something with lineart.
My favorite part of this character is that he has bioluminescent fiberoptic hair.
I did my very best to capture all of his details; I hope you think I did well

Your attention to detail astounds me every time! I've been looking at several of your pieces, and I always just have to sit and stare at them for long periods of time, especially this one. I can't stop studying this! It's amazing how you've been able to get every single fold of skin as well as the sparkles and individual hairs. Someone already mentioned this, but the shading is also so incredible as well. I also love the attention that you put into the teeth. I can tell that you've really done your homework in trying to learn anatomy and get things right and it shows. The only thing that I would suggest if you ever did a piece like this again is to maybe change the position of the tongue or lower the bottom jaw slightly. It looks a little like he might be biting his tongue

Hello! I know this response is late, but I didn't want to take this out of my inbox until I replied to it. I really appreciate the time you've taken to look at my work and leave me a wonderful comment and critique. You're right, my favorite thing to learn is Anatomy! I don't apply my knowledge as rigorously as I'd like to, but someday maybe! As for this pose, I know exactly what you mean - it really bothers me too when artists sometimes draw animals with their tongues out and it looks like they're biting them. I tried to amend this by making sure the back/side teeth were separated a little, showing that the mouth was a bit open and the tongue was sliding through the space in the front teeth. To avoid this, do you think it would just be better in the future to draw some of the teeth not touching the tongue in front?

Yeah, I think leaving just a little bit of space in the front teeth would be just the ticket. With the back teeth I can see that you wanted to try and keep it separated, but those front teeth were being stubborn haha! Again, I love your work, you're a fantastic artist

I'm gonna say it again but your shading skills kill me, it makes your drawings look so real and alive! And the glowy effects are lovely, I especially love the backlight and shading on the feathers, but also the shading on the head and face! It really gives the character mass, together with those wrinkles! One can almost feel the skin moving over the flesh there.
