Description The Army issues new soldiers something we call a "Smart Book"... well they issued this HUGE one with TONS of pictures... even though I probably should've actually been reading, I admit, I usually used the pictures as references to draw. The pictures in there aren't too great or detailed or COLORED, which is why there are probably PLENTY of mistakes in this pic.

But if you can name in the comments the identity of all three guns shown in here, you so win. Win what? Respect.

"this is jason, kristi's husband"- to answer the challenge they are the M9 service pistol, M16A1 assault rifle, and the M240 bravo machine gun.

Im going to say mg-60 or mg-60E in you hands, the pistol isnt all that detailed, but im guessing standard issue beretta M9, but you may have been going creative for the M1911(which i am a fan of, one was used to take down a fighter plane in WWII) and on your back is sort of the ubiquitous american assault rifle, the muzzle and rail system makes them all look similar...M16 or M4?

shit, i fucked up the lmg, its more a saw type, but not clean enough to be a saw and the box/belt doesnt look like that...maybe a XM202, sorry bout the brain slip, i was thinking mg instead of lmg for some reason...oh well, but i stand by my other not very specific guesses.

Hehe, reminds me of Jayne from Firefly / Serenity. As for the guns, I know the one being held a squad-level machine gun (can't remember the proper name), deffenetly an M-16 on your back, and a Glock of some kind in the holster? Yeah, I complelety stating the obvious, sorry. Great job anyway!

Wait...how'd you get a smart book? You in the Army? Cool, me too. (make up an alternate line if that wasn't the case) well. ROTC. Almost the big-boy Army.

Well, I'll give it a shot.

You appear to be holding a SAW
Your sidearm is really hard to see, but since it's a sidearm, it's likely gonna be an M-9 (Beretta).
and I can't see enough of your slung weapon to tell accurately, so I can only guess.
Either the M16-A2 (or A3 if your unit is particularly badly supplied) or the M-4 Carbine. Hrmm, didn't feel like adding the M203?

Awesome job. Considering the crappy pictures you used for reference. You'd think they could pay someone here on DA a minuscule salary to update all their visuals eh?

Weapons: M249 SAW, made by FN-Herstal. Belt fed or magazine fed, 5.56 mm. Good for suppressive fire.

M16A1 Rifle (I'm assuming that due to the design of the forward handguard). A highly accurate 5.56 mm Assault Rifle, which is general issue in the US military. Or was, rather. Being supplanted by the M4 (a carbine version with retractable stock) and the M16A3, (very similar design, with round, symmetrical forward handguards, and slightly different pistol grip, and heavier barrel) I qualifed "Expert" on the M16A1 when in Basic. Nice shooting rifle if you keep it clean and properly oiled (but not over-oiled)

M92 Pistol: This is a guess, since I can't exactly tell if that's a pistol in your holster (or you're just happy to see us... ) 9 mm Made by Beretta. General consensus from the military folks I know consider it a poor replacement for the M1911A1 .45 caliber pistol. I personally have no experience with it, because it was fazed in long after I left the Army. I was issued a .38 caliber Smith & Wesson when on flight status, which was assumed to be a "last ditch" weapon. I would have grabbed one of the M60 machine guns we had for the door gunners if I needed too. Of course, I probably would have had some "personal equipment" stowed with me anyhow.

Nicely done, Shinga... Love the shine she's got in her eyes... a lovely green-eyed red-head with guns makes my heart go pitter-pat!

cpi [2006-02-17 19:34:11 +0000 UTC]

Hmm. Let me see. I recognize the guns. The one she's holding in front of her is the M249 SAW(Squad Automatic Weapon) 7.62mm Light Support Magazine with standard box magazine holding anywhere from a 100 to 200 rounds of 7.62mm Fullmetal Jacket or Semi-Jacketed Ammuniton, which is high-velocity.(I don't see the Box Magazine on there, but generally it comes with a box magazine.) On her back, is the Standard Infantry Issued Colt M16A2, which is different in construction than the M16 used during Vietnam, which if I'm not mistaken, has a Bakelite body. the Newer M16A2 have bodies that are constructed out of harder material, possible steel or a composite plastic. the Pistol in the holster, probably is Standard Infantry Issued Beretta M9 or M92F 9mmx19 Parabellum Semi-Automatic Pistol. The word Parabellum, refers to the type of Ammunition used by NATO, while 9mmx17, is what is used by those of the Warsaw Pact. neither type of ammunition is exchangable, unless you make modifications to the Gun's firing mechanism. Am I off by any?
