Description
Autotomy is the process by which animals sacrifice a part of themselves so that the rest may live. Sometimes the part that is lost grows back, but it will never be the same as it was.Related content

Aw.... That's really sad. I never really thought someone could take something as simple as a lizard losing it's tail and make it so deep...
But, I suppose sometimes losing "someone" is for the better in the end...?

I really like how this is stylized and a bit different from your other work. Actually, when you posted this on Tumblr, I didn't realize you drew it... It just shows you have a really nice range of styles. I like the simplicity and the message.

Peh, your whole body cycles in a few months - you yourself are basically never the same either.
Your stomach, for one, the lining inside, it switches every week or so.
I guess the lizard should'nt bee looking into it so much, and consider itself lucky to be alive :3

It's so cute! I love leopard geckos and it's such an interesting adaptation to survival.
I'm not sure what it is about the text, but it's very touching.
Almost kind of... Sad. In a metaphorical way.

This happened to me and my friend when we were kids and chased geckos around ... only to be terrified when we actually caught one, and it magically ran away, leaving a twitching tail behind ... *shiver*

At first I laughed at the semi-serious deep text alongside a busted lizard, but after a few moments I decided I really love this piece. Whatever it is about it- maybe it's the humorous appeal, maybe it's the actual emotional appeal, but I really love this. I love it so much I would probably purchase a canvas print of it and hang it on my damn wall. Needless to say, I don't normally care to purchase artwork, but something about this is really grabbing me. Well done, really well done. I mean, I always love your work, but this is really appealing.

Thanks. It's kind of a light-hearted pic on the surface but it is also as close as I can get to expressing how I feel at the moment (and obviously I'm feeling emo as fuck, haha)

I don't know whether this is related to your recent update on The Meek or not, but just wanted to let you know that:
A) Regardless of what you do from here, the part of yourself that you invested in your artwork is definitely appreciated, and I'm sure has already made an impact on many other people.
B) Whatever it is that you need to do to keep going, and whatever it is you decide to pursue from here, I wish you the best and based that based on the effort, determination, and quality you've put into your past projects, feel confident you will succeed.

i often wonder if lizards feel pain. or if most creatures feel pain the same way we do.

Schemilix In reply to Budumpshh [2012-12-06 15:22:21 +0000 UTC]
Based on the complexity of their nervous systems and brains (as vertebrates) they certainly do feel pain, however, they cannot register burning pain, which is why many snakes and lizards in captivity can burn themselves on heating apparatus without realising it.
Yes, they do. I wouldn't know if autotomy hurts, though, since it's a controlled process.

When I was working at a retail store last year I found one of these little guys stuck to one of the stores sales stickers that had fallen on the flood, it took a long time, and allot of water, baby oil, and patience, but I got him loose, he had already ripped most of his tail off though Q.Q I took him home and set him free by my shed where I see those cuties running around all the time and he scampered off <3~ This picture is just to cute and kinda sad at the same time, wonderful job :3
