Autotomy is the process by which animals sacrifice a part of themselves so that the rest may live. Sometimes the part that is lost grows back, but it will never be the same as it was.Related content

But sometimes it grows back even bigger and better, too.

It hurts the creature for a second, but usually not for a long time, as they have little to no nerves in that body part. Of course, that only applies to creatures with detachable limbs. If a creature lost a body part that was supposed to be attached, then it would be in a lot of pain. Especially if it decided to sacrifice its head.

This is really great. Perfect sense of loss, but it doesn't wander into creepy "I'm nothing without youuuu!" territory.

The very notion of "Simple is Best" is so very well depicted here.

that's actually pretty disgusting if you think about it-part of the body detaches itself. gross.
It's also super fascinating! I love this

I really love this. The lizard and the idea, and how the break is bloodless but the schism is really apparent.

I used to do this to them when I was younger. I never felt so guilty in my life before...(ćļ¼Šļ¼)ć

Understated and perfect, and I love how the coloring style and detail makes it feel like one of those zoological plates.

Ha, I remember when I was younger, encountering my first lizard. I didn't want to get bitten, not knowing the innocent little thing I was about to terrorize wouldn't do anything of the sort, so I picked it up by its tail. Needless to say, I screamed when the tail popped off and lie there twitching back and forth on the ground.

I use to catch these blue tailed lizards all the time when I lived in Florida. The goal was to try and catch them with their tail intact, but it was rarely achieved.

It'll all be okay little lizard, even if it isn't the same. ;o; I know that feel.
