Description
Test your skills with the tutorial supplement worksheet here
Wow, it's a full tutorial
I've been making tutorials every month for all of my $5+ Patrons . Out of respect for them and their support, these tutorials remain locked for Patrons only for 6 months, but I decided I would post them publicly after that, so here is the first one: Coloring with Masks
Mask coloring is the method I use on my own webcomics Mare Internum and The Meek . As you can see from those examples, you can achieve a lot of different looks using one method. And it is very fast and very versatile... I hope you'll get some use out of this stuff!
The tutorial covers the basic scope of things you can achieve using Layer Mask coloring, but I also have a supplement worksheet with several pages of practice problems for sale here if you'd like to test your knowledge and learn to apply this method to your own work.
Note: this tutorial was made using Photoshop CC, but should work with any program that utilizes Layer Masks in a similar way.
As usual, the full archive of high-res tutorials are always available to Patrons , and the current tutorial/ worksheet of the month is available for the next highest tier.
Enjoy!

Wow, that's... I've been working with clipping masks and masks for a loooong time now and I've never used them this way. Thanks for showing me YET ANOTHER way to do stuff in Photoshop . It's a program that literally has hundreds of ways of achieving an effect.

Masks are also a great way of achieving special effects in your comics, specially for making things partially visible. You want to make Sue Storm gradually invisible from the stomach down? Use a layer mask!
