Have you seen John Carpenter's "The Thing"? The "Thing" is an alien that can transform and assimilate with other creatures, being able to transform into an already assimilated creature at any given time. It can also combine forms, like having the legs of a spider, the eyestalks of a slug, and it's body being the head of a human.
My point is, add some extra slime and we have a fan-mode for the thing right here!
