Sorry for the late reply, to apply image means to create a new layer then go to ||image > ||apply image, on the menu bar, it|s a way to put everything you|ve done in one layer, as if it was one image. Clipping mask means to create a layer in which u can delete some parts and when you move it around you|ll see the image just on the parts you|ve left after erasing.

oh to use the default settings means that when you use a filter you shouldn't change the settings that are already there, and to erase over the focal means that you have to erase after you have used the filter, you erase over your picture but leave some bits
