Description
"He'd spent the next three days talking to tech support over his scouter, trying to repair a machine he barely understood with the guidance of an equally incomprehensible tech. Between the alien's accent and the liberal use of technical jargon, every third word that the tech spoke remained an infuriating mystery."- from "Bad Timing" by *PragmaticHominid
This is 's prize from last month's drabble contest at #DBZ-Fanfics . The prompt was "Timing" and this is a scene from her entry, "[link] (Bad Timing)." I strongly suggest you go read it!!
The hard copy of this looks better than the scanned version, I think. Also, I realize the space pod looks distinctly non-spherical...um...chalk it up to the creatures that damaged it in the first place?
Materials used: Colored pencil, watercolor pencil, black water-based ink pens
I made some prints of this to sell at a con, and still have some left. I'm selling them for $5 each. This and all my other stuff that's for sale is listed here: [link]
Send me a note if you're interested!

Heh, I'm trying to clear out my pictures feed (3,774 pics to go....) and I saw this again (it came up on my list when it was added to the Raditz Club). And anyway, I just had to say again how much I love it. Got a big smile when I saw it here.

Thank you! I'm glad you [still] like it. X3
Wow, when I had been gone for three years I don't think I had that many pictures on my feed. (I also wasn't a member of any active groups -- because when I had stopped getting on, there was no such thing as groups; people just made a shared account and to submit things people just sent a note with the link/the file/whatever...) I just cleared everything out of the deviations feed when I came back...because I am impatient like that. Haha. (Then I just went back to the specific pages of the artists whose stuff I really wanted to see...)

This is wonderful and I can definitely sympathize because I've seen such situations happen first hand.
I really like how the shiny blue/black portion of Raditsu's armor looks. *_*

Thanks! That armor is one of my favorite parts and was super fun to color.

Looks purely awesome. The shading on the hair and especially the armor turned out awesome. Love the mix of black with that shade of blue.
Also, don't think I've mentioned this before, but I love the bristly, angry tail. Too many people draw Saiyajin tails like they're just, IDK, hairless brown noodles, so I always appreciate detailing on the fur.
And, whoa, that's a lot of time put into this. Thanks again, so much. XD

Thanks~ X3 I was really happy with how the armor turned out too because the way I handled the blue part was kind of a "leap of faith" move. You'll have to let me know if you think they look better "in person."
No, you hadn't mentioned the tail, but glad you did because I was hoping you'd noticed it. I tried to make it extra-bristly since he's so irritated. Now this other picture of Raditsu I've just been inking, it's a bit smoother (he's feeling more, shall we say, suave, in this picture you shall see) but with still little tufts of fur sticking out every now and then -- 'cause I know exactly what you mean with the "hairless brown noodles" thing.
But yeah, so happy you noticed~
You're very welcome. It was great fun and some good colored pencil practice to boot, since I haven't done any hardcore colored pencil work for quite a while. (Unless you count that other one of yours I did, I guess.) I just love Raditsu's armor design, it's so much fun.

I imagine that it does look even better in person - all the pieces of art that I've seen in person, the ones you did and the others - have been even more amazing once I've gotten to see them with my own eyes.
Tails are one of my favorite parts about the Saiyajin character designs, so I pay attention to such things. Never understood why some artists don't put more attention into that detail. When I used to draw, I also loved doing the tails...

Thanks. ^^ Just about to head over to the post office (okay, the grocery store that has a post office in it because what takes me 3 minutes at the grocery store post takes 20 or more at the regular post office) to send the picture.
Agreed. Heh, in all the random (context-less) pictures I used to draw of Goku and Vegeta, they always had tails. (I think I showed you all those ones with them fighting, in really bizarre poses?) Which reminds me, I still wanna do that close up of what I think the transition of spine to tail should look like. I should write that down so I don't forget.
Why'd you stop drawing, by the way, if you don't mind my asking? (Well, I guess I stopped for a while too, though that was a combination of a lack of time and motivation since it was at the point when I had decided I was too good for fanart. XD Haha.)

You should def. make sure that you remember that, because I'm excited to see the results of such a picture. XD
I guess I figured out that I was never going to be a 10th as good as I wanted to be, and that I was just wasting my time/embarrassing myself. I know that plenty of people balance writing and drawing, with excellent results, but it seemed more profitable for me to focus on writing, as I have some small chance of effectively developing my skills at that.

Sent! They said it would go out at 5:30 tonight, which I assume means it will go to the post office then...unless they mean it will actually go out then. O.o
*pulls up word document entitled "Notes" and writes the tail thing down*
Ah, I see. Well, of course I've never seen any of your drawings, but since I do enjoy your writing so very much I guess that worked out okay. XD
However, er, I get the feeling that if you saw any of my old drawings they would give the phrase "practice makes perfect" a whole new meaning. (Not to claim that my current drawings are perfect in any way, shape, or form, but uh...in comparison...)
If you want some good laughs, I can dig up my oldest DBZ art/comics. They were a distinctive combination of bad-to-mediocre art and bad-to-mediocre jokes.
I don't think I could give up one in favor of the other (to work on improving just one) because there's so much stuff that I feel I can only tell through writing, and so much stuff that I feel I can only show through art...but I do tend to go through periods of "writing now, art later" and vice versa.

Awesome. ^^
Also awesome. XD
I sort of wish that some of my old stuff was still around, because I have a perverse desire to prove how much I suck.
Have you seem that artistic development meme, or whatever it's called - the one that lets you post works from every year since you started drawing on to the same meme, so folks can see how you grew as an artist? If you've still got all your very old stuff, maybe you'd have fun with that meme? It's certainly one of my favorites to read.
I def. understand that feeling, but since I've never managed to show what I wanted to show through drawing... IDK, I've been sketching a little bit lately, but there's nothing there that I'd willingly show anyone.

Aw, that's too bad. Well, if you find your old stuff I wouldn't mind seeing it. And if you ever decide to pick drawing back up more seriously (er, not seriously, that's not the right word I guess, but you know what I mean) and want any help, I'd be glad to do what I can... My boyfriend told me yesterday (when I was helping him with parts of his drawing) that I'm pretty good with that. I think I mostly just have this intuitive ability to identify "this is what's wrong, this is how you fix it" (if only by demonstration, at times). Dunno if that makes any sense. If there's something specific you want help at (that you think I'm decent enough at to help you with) I'd be happy to whip up some kind of tutorial deal. I've done it before.
Yeah, I think I have most of my old stuff somewhere but not scanned in (it was on my old computer but I'm sure I was too embarrassed to save it over when I got this computer a couple of years ago). You mean this meme?
[link]
It was kind of depressing to pick out art for the years that I didn't have enough art. XD
Or were you talking about a different meme? Anyway, I should definitely dig out my old pictures of Vitega (the old Vejata) so you can see that and laugh. Oh, it's so bad. Well, compared to now.
Aside from using drawings to show things that I don't think I could write about as successfully, they're also perfect for "that's such a cool idea but I'm too lazy to write it/I couldn't think of more than two sentences to say about it/it would be way too cheesy to read -- but it's too good/badass/silly to pass up!" ideas, such as [link]

I think the old stuff is gone forever - it was hosted on geocities.com, and geocities has since gone under. Anyway, the world is better off without that crap. If I come up with anything that's worth uploading, I'd certainly love your input, but that this point I'm not even at the stage where I was before I gave it up, so it's still just too embarrassing. Also, I don't have a scanner.
Yes, that's the meme! I suppose I've seen that one before, though I'd forgotten. I don't know from your old Vitega work, but looking at that meme you seem to have been better at the age of 14 than I was at 18, so yeah.
I have seen that one, which is in fact awesome. It's true that I don't think that could have been made to work as a fic, but as a piece of art it's just awesome to look at.

Ahh, I see. Well, that's fine.
Yeah, I really need to go up to my room and dig up my old art, scan some of it in so I can show people for some giggles. I had one of those "How to Draw DBZ" books that I started my DBZ drawings off of, but when I wasn't going off the book exactly my drawings were completely different, like I'd forgotten anything the book had told me, or maybe just grossly misinterpreted/overdone/underdone it.
I had these little one-page mini-comics I used to do of Vegeta and Goku as kids. They made...no sense. Ah goodness.
Anyway, I've invested a lot of time in drawing over my life (it was only one of my favorite things ever, along with reading, writing, and watching Bill Nye and Kratt's Creatures ) so...unless you did the same I would be pretty alarmed if you outstripped me in every way in that area. Now writing, that's another story. (Hahaha...pun.) You are just way too good at that.
I'm glad you do like that one. I liked one comment below it (I think snen made it) about how it's like Vegeta meets Dr. Horrible.
Oh yeah -- in case you didn't see (you probably will have by the time you wade through those other ridiculously long replies ), I posted the next chapter of AG. *is nervously awaiting your thoughts on it @.@*
