Description Dianna’s Tree ..

My dear friend laid his wife to rest today. A mass of Christian burial at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church was held this morning at 10:00 am. The Rev. M. Den Irwin, Pastor, officiating as senior celebrant. Interment was followed at Serenity Memorial Gardens.

Oh, is there anything more challenging that finding comforting words in which to say in a not so comfortable time? When I am a loss for words, I let them turn to paint and paper β€”

I created this piece today using a mixture first of Berol Prismacolor watercolor pencils, scanned it, and then a variety of softer brushes on Adobe. I believe, at least, that it speaks for itself.

IN MEMORY OF DIANNA L. MOODY

-------

Leaves that blow from autumn trees
Prepare the way for winter freeze
To chart the paths of moving time
A cycle plays out nature's rhyme

Though sometimes leaves do fall in spring
The sound's an unfamiliar ring
New from buds the leaves they form
They grow amidst the sun so warm

So why do some release their bounds?
And tumble gently towards the ground
To disconnect from what they know
And sacrifice the chance to grow

Only God can know these things
And why he calls for leaves in spring
Perhaps leaves choose to ride the wind
To find some place to start again...

This is powerful, in its soft, caring way.
But at least it was a burial. There's something to go back to.

The amazing thing about this piece is how you've shown that there can be beauty in death, and that we never lose those we love. The leaves may be falling but they glow with promise that it's not forever. The background is perfect and it's nice to see your dear friend looking up rather than down.

This is a beautiful piece, Shinju. You did her proud.

I loved your words here so much that I actually quoted them to him.

Thank you. 2001-2002 was a terrible year for my family; from 9/11 to depression to the death of my 3 month old nephew and more. It was unreal. I was grasping at God and I'm glad He didn't mind.

I really do like that drawing, and I hope your friend lets himself lean on the shoulder of the great "I AM."

This tribute is so sentimental and yet so sad. It seems to do justice nonetheless. Eternal peace to Dianna.

I'm honestly trying to tear up just looking at that picture and realizing the meaning behind it. Such a conflict of emotions in his face, too--all at once lost, sad, thoughtful, and even peaceful.

Amazing work, Shinju.
