fantastic job... and i agree with your comment... it is nice to see the technique used in a way that makes a photo much better... not just another example of panning...

Even though it is sometimes hard (for me anyway!) to make the object stay in focus while maintaining a dynamic feel through the motion blur in the background in panning shots like this, I think the hardest part of making a decent panning photo is actually whether the photo has succeeded in capturing a unique moment or not. I mean, when you have enough practice, you can just pan almost everything in motion, be it running person or speeding cars. But without something unique, it's just a plain dynamic shot, that's all. But when you're able to capture something like a basket player trying to get the ball from his opponent while running like this... it adds a nice feel of intensity to the overall image. I'm rather grateful we have digital photography these days, if I were to practice panning shots with film camera, I think it would take me lots of rolls before I get something like this.
