I use paint tool sai, but you can use anything really as it's pixel work, I made a journal on how I made my icons, I hope it helps!Β Β
~How I Make Icons~Here is how I personally make my icons!
Making The Frames
1. Open up your art program of choice
Make sure the program you're using has some kind of "pixel" brush, they can go by many names in some programs so just test them until you find a brush that is one pixel big and has no "fuzz" around it. (Da Muro doesn't have one last time I checked)
2. Set the canvas to 50x50 pixels.
you need it to be 50x50 if you are doing an icon but if you need an animation/GIF preview set the canvas to 150x150 pixels.
(icons can only be 50x50)
3. Make your frames
Once I make a good frame I save it as a PNG, edit it, save it as a new image and repeat until I have enough images. Obvious, but save them as separate files if you make any changes to the original such as blinking/winking.
4. Open up some kind of GIF creatorΒ
I just use Enzimba, it merges your images into a frame by frame animation and is my personal choice of making GIFS. If you need a frame to go on for longer than the rest e.g eyesΒ it includes the link to websites I use to make itΒ gif and change the speed etc, but if you need more help, feel free to note me anytime!!
