I've never played the game but I have read the manga and seen videos of it and I agree. The game is terrifying. The moon and the mask were the first things I ever saw of he game and it's definitely terrifying.

Maybe they somehow thought it would make the games more interesting. I played Twilight Princess and it's rated T and for a good reason cause there's some freaky and messed up stuff in it. But maybe they thought because the graphics weren't as good in Majora's Mask or Ocarnia of Time they figured it wouldn't be as scary.
